Conor Oberst says this time (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1551327/20070201/index.jhtml#/news/articles/1551327/20070201/index.jhtml) around Bright Eyes (http://www.absolutepunk.net/brighteyes) is trying to be a little smarter.

Being smarter by releasing only one album huh? Oh well. Good for Connor, bad for me.

The people at Saddle Creek — Bright Eyes' label, which was co-founded by Oberst — "are building this new venue and bar and office-space complex in downtown Omaha, Nebraska, right now, and it will be open for the summer," he explained. "We're trying to get something special for the grand opening."

The opening could feature a performance by erstwhile indie rockers Slowdown Virginia. And Oberst said that while nothing's been discussed yet, he thinks reuniting his former band, Commander Venus — which disbanded in 1997 after just two years — would make the night even more interesting.

perfect would imply he could sing. great songwriter, but i'd rather listen to tom waits gargle asphalt than a full record of conor muttering to himself.

and yes, that's a patton oswalt reference.

Thank you for opening my eyes. I've ignorantly enjoyed Bright Eyes now for four years. What fortune that you would take precious time to post in this thread, a thread for people who are Bright Eyes fans, to tell us just how wrong we all are!

I for one have already thrown away my Bright Eyes CDs, and burned my ticket stubs.

It's much appreciated.

I saw him in December in Birmingham, AL with the Taylor Family Band at a VFW hall. That night was absolutely amazing. It was cool to watch him and Maria Taylor switch off on songs.
Maybe they could do Commander Venus as an opener, Desperacidos as a co-headliner, and Bright Eyes as a headliner. heh, I can dream can't I?

Ease up on the backlash Brosef Stalin- I wasn't saying you shouldn't enjoy Bright Eyes. I was saying a perfect record should entail a singer that's more than his songs, but I'm just weird like that I guess.

You must not like Bob Dylan, Robert Smith, or Geoff Rickley ... all of which great artists who prove that a voice is an not just an instrument, its a sound effect... its an emotion. I dont think I'd like Bright Eyes as much if Conner had a beautiful voice, because it would lack the pain and color it takes to pull off his lyrics.

My grief wasn't with the singers- I love Bob Dylan and Thursday, as well as many other artists that aren't neccessarily amazing singers. My grief was with the idea of a Bright Eyes record being perfect. That's like me saying you must hate Jeff Buckley and Jellyfish because their singers (who are also amazing songwriters) can- ya know, sing.

Haha. I didn't say anything just to piss off a bunch of Bright Eyes fans. I've agreed with everything everyone has said- except that Bright Eyes has made a perfect record. But if we'd rather just outcast the people that don't agree instead of actually having a conversation (as best anyone can on a website forum) about music, that's cool too.

actually he compared the originality/uniqueness of each of their voices... which was a just comparison, dipshit. Nowhere in there did he say Conor's music comes close or even sounds like Bob's he just said they both have very unique voices.

I understand exactly what you are saying. Some people just want to act all tough on a message board.

Lifted may be his perfect album, but it isnt yours because you value a singer's voice also.

There is not a problem with either one, it's just an opinion but everyone wants to hate you for not agreeing(spelling?). You just stated an opinion and everyone had to come at you all pissed off, which pissed me off.

I dislike Thursday just because I can't stand his voice; it is unbearable to me, but I enjoy Bright Eyes and Dylan.

Most of those people have never listened to Bob Dylan, simply because it's a lot easier to reciprocate someone else's (misinformed) opinion than to make their own.
