I think Mae is a fairly underrated band. Mostly, it seems as if people have a problem with Dave's voice live, but really... he's not that awful and their albums are both spectacular, show them some love.

I heard some new songs on their last tour. They blew my mind! and i talked to the guys afterwards and they said they feel the new record is the most amazing thing any of them have ever accomplished. So that sounds like some good news...

Oh, absolutely. I think a singer can vastly improve, if he/she was a decent singer to begin with. But, if you take, say, one of the really bad singers on the American Idol tryouts, and give them a vocal coach, they are still going to suck. It's like gold plating a pile of horse shit. Underneath the golden exterior, it's still a pile of shit.

i don't so much have a problem with his voice -- i mean, he's not spectacular, but he sounds good enough, or has every time i've seen him -- but with his stage presence. they've just failed to be exciting when i've seen them; he does very little to interact with the crowd and really get into the show. but thats just me.

i hope this album is better than the everglow, i never really got into it as much as i did their first album.

his vocals really do depend on the day. it can vary between spot on and absolutely terrible. he has also gotten less consistent, so i can understand why someone might think he has a terrible voice. i don't really think that is the case, but i can definitely see where those people are coming from.

i do agree the vocals are the weakest part of the band. i'm not saying i don't like the vocals recorded, because i do (to each their own), but i do not think he is a great vocalist by any means. the music is where this band shines.

I don't understand why so many people like the first album better. Don't get me wrong, i love D:B, but The Everglow is such a great musical progression for them. It's hard for me to listen to "This Time is the Last Time" when i have "Painless" instead.
Regardless, i've been excited for the new CD, and hopefully a headliner to follow.

Singing is incredibly similar to playing a musical instrument. With correct training and practice, your abilities improve, you can begin to develop your own style, etc. Saying that, I do believe that even the worst of singers can at least make some improvement. As for Dave, I think he has a unique voice with a lot of passion, which is what matters most to me.
