Brand New supported by mewithoutYou.
February 6th 2007
Manchester Apollo, England

This was an amazing show.
mewithoutYou were very entertaining, Aaron Weiss gave a really energetic performance.
A rough setlist: (I have a fairly good idea of their songs, but some may be missed out):

A Glass Can Only Spill What it Contains
January 1979
Four Word Letter
Torches Together
Nice and Blue
C-Minor (?)
O Porcupine
In a Sweater Poorly Knit

Brand New (in correct order, pretty much):

Jude Law (just Jesse)
70 x 7
The Shower Scene
The No Seatbelt Song
Soco Amaretto Lime

Tautou
Sic Transit Gloria
I Will Play My Game...
Tommy Gun
The Quiet Things...
The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot
Jaws Theme Swimming
Me Vs. Maradona Vs. Elvis
Guernica
Play Crack the Sky

Welcome to Bangkok
Degausser
Luca
Jesus Christ
Sowing Season
You Won't Know

Yes, they played in this order, from album to album. The sound was a little muddy from time to time, but Jesse's voice was really strong and carried the songs along. I'm off to bed now, but if anyone has any questions I'll answer tomorrow.

It really was incredible.

Deja is by far my favourite of their albums, but I can't deny being excited to hear the classics from YFW right at the start.

Oh, also, at the end of The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot, Jesse sang "And I guess that I miss you, and I'm sorry if I dissed you", which google tells me is a Modest Mouse lyric.

Yep it was certainly amazing. Brand New played for an hour and 40 mins it was an amazing set form start to finish.

At first I was confused...but I think I really like how they play some from yfw, then deja, then devil. and i just noticed deja is in order and only missing "good to know." which is fine...i can't stand that song live.

I'm going to Birmingham on Sunday and have to leave half an hour early for the train. If I miss all the new songs, I'll be pissed, I've seen BN and heard the other songs before.

You Won't Know was the best song i've ever seen live.
In my opinion, obviously.

The end You Won't Know's were just great. Jesse put so much passion into that song, couldn't really have asked for a better setlist. Was really surprised they played so many songs but glad!

Still, i do wish they'd played Not The Sun. Hope they play it at Give It A Name.

i'd go as far as saying that was the best gig i've ever been to! the whole show was improv. I was getting worried about the show because people say that they don't put on strong performances(i've always thought that was a crock of shit because i've seen them 4 times before and they haven't failed before) but last night was the best by far!
i wish they would have played handcuffs, limosine and the archers are bowing.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that the set was so big because they dont get over there very often. I'm guessing the U.S. will get 16-18 songs a night ....I REALLY would love to see Jude LAw played again, but I thinkt hat will get cut from the U.S. list.

I think we will get 3 YFW songs, 9 Deja, and 5-6 Devil

Good to see MWY playing January 1979 again. And, Brand New's setlist looks incredible.

I honestly think that might be the best set ever.

Although, personally, I would like to see them close with Soco Armaretto Lim.

If they play that epic of a set when they come around during the spring though... I don't know if I'll ever be able to go to another show again. Everything would just pale in comparison.

Dont think the set list is absolutely correct... Luca was played after Bangkok , Jaws was played near or at the end of Dejas list.. and i think Jesus was played just before You Wont Know. Apart from that the set list was such a freaking awesome concept.. not to mention they were on stage for like 1 hour 50 minutes. And the bit were they broke their sound system just added to the atmosphere lol.

Cant wait till April for GIAN , AFI and Brand New in the same festival.

Yeah, I could well have messed up the order of the Devil... section, I'd stopped writing the songs down by then, I just remember which ones were definitely played. But I'm fairly sure the Deja order is correct.

I just got back from the Glasgow show. Seriously one of the best gigs I have ever witnessed.

Although, the Brand New merch was shockingly bad, it looked like it was made in a garage by retards.

I ended up buying a mewithoutyou tshirt and I managed to get hold of one of the ultra rare UK tour posters (only 15 sold at each show on the UK tour, so there are about 100 in the whole world)

Anyway, I've heard about the setlists that Brand New has been playing in Europe, and I'm amazed. I'm REEEALLY hoping it'll be the same in North America but I'm kind of doubting it. It'd be amazing, though, for sure (especially since I was really unimpressed with their summer tour last year).

I'm predicting more TDAGARIM songs on the North American tour, though. They said at a Paris (I think it was) show that they haven't had a chance to practice those too much, and therefore can't play a lot of them. By the time the North American tour rolls around, I think TDAGARIM songs will be popping up a lot more.

Which is fine - I already saw them play Deja & YFW songs, and so have most of their fans, really.

(Which may also be the reason why they're playing practically all of Deja on their European tour - they've been hitting new cities, and fans in those areas haven't gotten a chance to see them play those songs live yet. Only fair)
