That I haven't heard. But now I think I know why a friend of mine covered it. He always talked about how much he hated The Beatles.

My favorite Ben Folds song is a coin flip between Landed and Brick such is it a coin flip between Songs For Silverman and Whatever and Ever Amen.

Jesusland and Evaporated is coin flip for my second favorite Ben Folds song.

I heard Rockin' the Suburbs (the song) for the first time today, and I loved it instantly. I've only heard a few of his songs before now, but I'm thinking I need to look more up.

Brick is the perfect pop song.
i dont agree i think a more perfect song would be Annie Waits. Yes Brick s a great song by him but not his best work. I also dont think he great enough credit for influencing bands like Blink 182. To me he was a big part of the reason Pop-Punk is what it is today

CityDreams
02/21/08, 01:08 PM
yes they did, they have mentioned him as an influence in interviews during the begining of thier career,

What an epic bump for such an asinine statement.
What is asinine about that comment, Blink mentions in early interviews as a band that they listened to alot of Ben Folds Five before and during the time they were and band, and still are a favorite artist of Mark and Tom's

CityDreams
02/21/08, 01:25 PM
Fair enough. I stand corrected.
but to the original comment, What gives you the feeling that Brick is "The" perfect pop song

CityDreams
02/22/08, 05:51 AM
Catchy yet meaningful.
i agree but did you know that the chorus and the verse had nothing to do wiht each other, Ben had wrote the verses about the abortion his girlfriend had, and Darren wrote the chorus seprately, one day ben herd darren playing it and they put the two together,

KillyourIdols88

Ok so is Ben Folds and Ben Folds five two diffrent bands with ben in them or is it the same but just a shorter way to say it?

The solo stuff is alot more mature, The most current stuff does not really sound like Ben Folds Five which i a more poppy sound. Both are great, if you can find it their is an extneded version of WAEA that has the orginal album and then like 13 b-sides and japanese releases. Its a really great album

CityDreams
02/22/08, 08:59 AM
haha really? That's pretty stupid. He could of at least used to melody and wrote abortion related lyrics.
he did use the melody Darren wrote the melody, Ben just wrote the words seprate wiht no music, then when he herd darren playing the music with no words and singing the chorus he put his words to it. If that clears up the confusion. I dont know if it did.

CityDreams
02/22/08, 09:34 AM
It did.
do you have a favorite ablum by him/ them?

Half of Rockin' The Suburbs was just... too poppy for me. I'm expecting some Weird Al lyrics to be busted out -- but instead I get mediocre boring ones.

Hes got to have a new album coming out very soon. Word was he spent a lot of '06 and '07 writing new stuff but he seems to just keep rollin with covers. Not complaining though because he usually owns those too. But Im more than ready for new Ben Folds.

Ben is one of my heroes. I would kill to have the talent he has. I am so pumped for a new album especially since I heard the new songs sound more like his work when he was in the Five! I love his solo stuff but you can't beat Ben Folds Five!
