haha not a big fan of my chemical romance but this album was a surprise. it's pretty damn good. congrats to mcr.
good for them, they are extremely successful, but somehow stay out of the spotlight

I was trying too hard to be snarky at first, but all I really wanted to do was say that these guys changed their sound and subject matter to appeal to the teenage demographic.
I don't think they're deserving of anything except a swift kick in the nuts.

Out of the spotlight??? Compared to Fall Out Boy, yes, but...... I believe it was last month (or maybe the month before, I cant remember) I went to Borders books and was checking out the magazine section. Those dudes were on the covers of 5 different magazines in the same month!!!! Crazy.
Also OT, The dudes in MCR are cousins with Fear Factor's Joe Rogan ha ha.

Yeah, because teenagers are so aware of and into David Bowie and Queen that they crave it in their modern-day music and bands.

I did the same thing last month. It was insane. Every magazine that wasn't completely underground either had them on the cover, or had their name on the cover. I think that's when you know you're a household name.

Not a personal attack, just sarcasm. Anything I say is light hearted. Sarcasm has its sense of honesty though, I've been teaching a bunch of kids MCR songs on guitar for a few years now and its getting repulsive :/

This is the only My Chemical Romance album I like the entire way through. The one before it has some good songs but some not good songs, as well as some unemotive drumming.

If you don't get what I was saying, I'm not sure this explaination is going to help (but I'll give it a shot): The gentleman I quoted said that My Chemical Romance changed their sound in order to sell more records and appeal to teenagers. The point I was making with my comment was teenagers these days aren't that well-versed in classic rock or music from generations past, so I doubt they're really itching for influences from Queen and David Bowie in what comes out today. How does that all relate? Well, The Black Parade is heavily influenced by those two examples (and then some) I gave.

speaking of bands selling well, did anyone see that gym class heroes are the second best selling song on iTunes today with Cupid's Chokehold? I knew they were re-releasing it as a single, but that's kind of crazy.
Plus, patrick is featured on the number one and number two top songs today. pretty weird to see/awesome for him.

yeah I dunno either, but obviously someone who thought that the new MCR was just to sell more records with a unique sound, haha even though the influences are quite clear

Ahh, I see, so we were talking about two different aspects of their music. My original point was that they went from a raw, rough sound with music about the darker aspects of (popular) culture, and now they write songs that are more accessible, i.e. "I'm Not Okay", "Teenagers", songs that are designed to evoke a response of "Hey, this song is about exactly what I'm going through right now. These guys are just like me."
It just seems antithetical to the kind of music and subject matter they wrote about on the first CD. My impression of the band is that once they started getting offers from major labels they said, "Hey, we have a message that we want to get across, but we need to make our music more accessible and "listenable" in order to get the majority amount of kids to listen to it." Their hearts are in the right place, I just disagree with the methods in which they went about doing it.
It just seems to me that they took the easy road to success. So, when you say "Hey, congrats on going platinum!!", it's not like it was all that hard, because they wrote songs that are designed to be pop songs, and sell lots of records, whereas five years ago when you listened to their first CD, you'd never think that they would do something like this.

i'm not here to rip on people but seriously...... if going platnum wasn't "all that hard" we'd all be fuckin rockstars. it is unlike any other professional goal in that it is entirely out of your hands. you can write the best record ever....but you can't make it sell a million records. it strictly revolves around what others think of you and that is the scariest position you can imagine when it comes to a job and a livelihood. not to mention they've done it twice.

So I'm guessing you sit around and complain how kids never want to learn "real" music on guitar and only want to play "garbage" like My Chemical Romance.

No surprise here... After the success of the Helena single off the last album, I knew they would follow up with an album to that style. Every part epic, catchy and over the top.

you have to be happy for them & respect them.
i don't see any posts about your record going

doesn't mean they're bad people or they have
bad music. don't you think they're on there
because they have good music?

I was joking about you having me pegged, but anyway, he probably didnt hate you, he figured he was doing his job. You do what you can do to keep the students content, while giving them knowledge. Ive been teaching for almost five years and I'm up to 45 students a week, 20 more than the average teacher around here, I must be doing something right..

I teach them to read music, tabs, chord charts and scale charts in the first half of the lesson, the second half we usually work on figuring out songs. It depends on the student though. I utilize all of that stuff where it is necessary because some students are stronger in certain areas, and some completely despise those concepts.
