Well, first off, I wasen't sure if I put this in General or in Music, so I decided on General... I hope that was alright.
Anyway,
I've been trying to figure out how to do the ska guitar strum for quite some time, but I can never seem to get it. I know it's something like mute-hit-mute-hit-mute-hit in that pattern, but there is like 4mutes+hits than 2mutes+hits-slide-2mutes+hits. I really get confused.
If anyone knows how to do this strum, I'd really really like to know how it's done.
Also, I was curious as to what the most common chords in ska are, as I'm more of a beginner guitarist and I really want to get ska down.
Thanks a bunch, it means a lot to me.

how about instead of being a stupid noob who gives a terrible name to ska fans (which sir, you are) think of some songs that you are trying to get it to sound like, and look up the chords.

Strum up on the off beats. Strum down in the first on-beat of the measure some times.
For chords just play a power chord except kind of backwards on the three highest (pitched) strings. For example on the e and B put your pinkie and ring finger on the seventh frets, and on the G string put your index finger on the fifth.
I don't play ska, but when I need to fake it that tends to work for me.
Oh, and I found the forum you wanted...

Oh lawd, please don't call me a noob :[ It hurts my feelings so! OH LAWDD!!!
First of all-
There is a set basic style towards a ska strum, I am not asking for the specific mute-stroke-mute-stroke-slide-stroke; style, I'm asking for the proper techneaque. If you had reading skills above the grade two, you'd understand that.
Second of all, I don't quite feel the need to have someone who, so blatantly, ignores the point of a post and makes assumptions (making his or herself look like a complete moron), judging on how much of a "fan" I am to a style of music. How about, instead of being an illiterate fool, you shut off your computer (therefore ending your life) and save everyone the trouble of ever hearing your close minded responses. That would be wonderful! Thanksssss!!

Maybe you didn't, but I can more than assure you that there are people who read posts outloud, or at least see, which is often refered to as a sense of hearing (especially to those who are listening impaired).
I also doubt anyone would, since 17,000 posts is not something you should have in this user's active time. Just a sign of too much time in a room. I doubt anyone has heard this user's voice.
Good day! :)

I will no longer stoop down to your (in general) level and post in this thread, so say what you want-- I will not respond. You can basically consider this thread closed. Be my guest to do so, mods, if you would like.

or a sign of a really boring job.
seriously though you're not going to get anything out of typing responses that make logical sense in here. just a few gtfo's or n00b accusations.
