sweet. I went in 03 and 04. The shows I went to were free. Are there still free shows? I'm confused on that matter.

As of last year there were free shows. I'm sure that trend will continue this year.

SWEET. too bad it looks like over half the bands i want to see are playing the 15th...aaagh.
anyone know why the alt press showcase bands (circa survive, as tall as lions, etc) and the drive-thru showcase bands (house of fools, early november, etc) aren't listed on sxsw's list of bands yet? i know it's a preliminary list but it's weird. i'm sure there's others missing but they're not bands i have been paying as much attention to...
soooo stoked for sxsw, this is my first year going. regarding free shows, about how many of the shows are free? and also are wristbands still available, if so would i be well off getting one or should i just pay on a show-by-show basis...(i'm going march 14-17)

I've never been to sxsw but I have many friends who have showcased there...
from what I have heard you can buy an all acess pass that gets you front of the line to almost any show...and the shows are free. but this is fairly expensive and must be done in advance.
the next level is the wrist bands, which get you in to shows for free..but only after all the people with passes (laminentes sp?) are in.
the last way to go is to wait in line and pay...but I hear that this way is very difficult to see good bands because most shows are "sold out" by people who have passes or bracelets...
this is only what I hear from years past.

to anyone going, you should probably go catch emily haines (as long as it doesn't interfere with ur ability to listen to days away). shes absolutely amazing.

this is the part i know....the passes get you into the more business type stuff too. i don't need one of those....its just between getting a wristband and just paying show by show, that's why I'm more asking people who have been before....are there any wristbands left?
