Alright, there isn't a philosophy forum so I'll post this here.
So, this is on the most basic inquiry of existence: What does it mean "to be?"
obviously no wrong answer, but I think the "choice" says a lot about a person.
so: Berkeley or Descartes?
esse est percipi

I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am.
Always been partial to Descartes, "Je pense, donc je suis."
If we follow the instantiation principle then I have no reason to accept anything beyond Descartes; however, the decision itself also becomes trivial.

I'm a solipsist, so you all should accept that you are manifestations of my mind.
Berkeley, on this subject.

This whole debate always seemed trivial to me.
of course, its mental masterbation.

Hooray Hume!

I used to give some credence to solipsism, but after G.E. Moore's A Defense of Common Sense, and much of Bertrand Russel's work, I can no longer understand how anyone could defend that idea of reality. I'm quite surprised because most people who defend this view are the most selfish fucks I've ever met, like Ayn Randian selfish.
The more and more I read about Descartes the more and more I dislike the guy. He is a perfect example, of his time, of really shotty science due to his religious beliefs. He actually states that animals are nothing more than robots and he preformed numerous vivisections on various species while they were awake. He explained that they only looked and sounded like they were in pain because God is playing a trick on us, because it wouldn't allow us to harm creatures as a part of our basic sustenance.
