“In the matter of the ‘gum game’ — the yucky attempt in Montgomery County schools to impress upon teenagers the dangers of sexual promiscuity by asking them to share a piece of gum (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/14/AR2007021401477.html) — all involved now appear to be appalled at themselves,” the Washington Post reports. “‘It’s a disgusting, gross exercise that no adult should have asked a child to do, no matter what the purpose,’ says Brian Edwards, spokesman for the county school system, which has now banned the Pregnancy Center from public classrooms.”

Whatever happened to the good old fashioned pictures of a penis with gonorrhea? That gets the message across loud and clear without having to come up with all these seemingly clever metaphors.

Wow. Sex is a fucking beautiful thing. That may sound cliched but it really is- and essentially telling kids you'll get syphilis from sharing big league chew is terrible. In case countless serial killers and other weirdos weren't enough proof- sexual estrangement in young adulthood is NOT great for later in life.

hahaha
Are you serious? So people who don't have sex due to religious or personal beliefs turn out to be serial killers and weirdos? I'm mean it's okay to voice your opinion, it's a free country and all that, but sometimes it just makes yourself look like a total moron.

Thats absolutely not what I'm saying. If a kid chooses to abstain from sex with a clear reason in mind, then fine. However, confusing kids sexually- essentially telling them that nature is wrong and the feelings they have are unnatural- that is what fucks people up. Its okay to voice your argument, this is as you say a free country, but sometimes when you don't throughly read someones opinion because of your eagerness to retaliate- you look like a "total moron".

This is probably what you should have included in your original post because up until your last sentence I totally agreed with you. Your last sentence grouped everyone, regardless of whether by choice or not, into a class of weirdos and serial killers for being "sexually estranged". I'm aware now it wasn't your intention but that wasn't how it sounded.

truce:) I agree I could have worded it better. Sometimes my head works faster than my fingers. ANd for some reason that statement sounds awkward and sexual.

Pointless, anti-progressive.
Abstinence doesn't work and is misguided, sex is a natural thing to be enjoyed by all and is perfectly safe is protection is used.
well, abstinence does work
but the gum chewing thing is a bit weird

Abstinence does work in the sense that if you don't have sex, you don't get any diseases.
However, it doesn't work in the sense that it is unrealistic and stupid to try to prevent human beings from engaging in a natural activity. There's no reason to fight nature; it's stupid and it's ineffective. Abstinence only education is a disgrace.

If simply sharing gum could provide you with a mind-numbing orgasm, then I would do it quite frequently.

I've shared gum with a girl before. It was on a date though, and she was hot.

I like you.
ha thanks
but to clarify, im not saying i think there should be abstinence only education, im just stating the obvious really. and i guess ultimately you shouldnt have to tell kids that by abstaining from sex they will avoid pregnancy and STD's, although my generation never ceases to defy logic.

Its strange how on a lot of social issues America is a good 20 years or more behind the UK, I mean you guys dont even have a free health service. When we brought gay marriage in no-one was in the least bit bothered and we did away with capital punishment 40 years ago.
I guess it stems from being the most religiously apathetic nation on the planet, Only 40% of Britains consider themselves as believing in God and almost of many Muslims go to the Mosque every friday than Christians going to church on Sunday.
huh?

And you aren't a super power anymore. Sorry but the way history works isn't to follow England. In fact there was only a relatively short amount of time that people DID follow England.
free health care - we have a different economic system than you do. Why can't people understand that?
Gay marriage - its a political issue, not a social one. for it to be a social issue it needs to be allowed. They can have their civil unions as far as I am conserned. And for that matter non religious heterosexual couples can have the same. Marriage was always something religious and not state oriented.
I hate that people focus on things like Gay marriage, and American's broken health care. Yes they need fixed but if you really think those are the biggest problems in the world you have isolation issues.

if it's not state oriented, why do you need a license from the state to get married in the first place? gay marriage is a social issue but because it's not allowed, it's been politicized.

i think i would probably still enjoy delicious big league chew even if it did give you syphilis.
