Unfortunately, the Illini are most likely out. Unless they make an incredible run down the stretch which I don't see happening.

illinois is nowhere near the bubble...they have 9 losses already. they are an average team at best

id say the only team id take from that list for sure is maryland, followed by louisville

Yeah, pretty much the only one I'd take is Maryland and/or Louisville like brokendown said.

HOW IN THE WORLD is Michigan State IN? Those impressive wins over Texas and BUTLER?

Don't disagree that they're on the wrong side of the bubble, do disagree that they are "nowehere near it"... Lunardi has them 2nd team out... number of losses don't matter but a lot of other bubble teams have 9 or more (texas tech, purdue, georgia, florida state, wichita state) and they don't have any bad losses... 41 rpi with a sos of 19. Their next 3 games are NW, Michigan and @PSU, all very winnable games. To say they aren't close is ridiculous. They are very much right on the bubble.

That said, who knows how the tragedy of this week will affect the team. I don't know and I really don't know where the players stand (will Jamar Smith or Carlwell play again this year?)

I'm pretty sure Smith will play, he just suffered a concussion.

That's not true. Every team on there is projected to be "just" on the outside looking in. And all have games and tourney's left to still impress enough to get in. I bet more teams on this list get in then you think.

They nevery played Butler - However, they did womp on Bradley.

They also lost to Ohio St (@ OSU) by 2.

You're right they are not in yet - But if they get wins against Iowa and Indiana (which is possible) they will be right back in the thick of things - And moreover, a win over Wiscosin - Would basically clinch a tourney berth

Yeah, I mixed up the two mid-major teams that start with B. So it looks even worse since Butler is much better than Bradley is. And that game against Bradley was at the Palace of Auburn Hills, meaning, a virtual home game that over 80% of the Izzone student section was at. So it's even less impressive.

And we cannot compete with Wisconsin, at all. Not at all. We don't have any shred of an post game on either end of the floor and our guard play outside of Drew Neitzel is terrible. This is due to some injuries that are still nagging, but it's also to the lack of depth that we have. If only Shannon Brown would've stayed 1 more season.

Also, we've already lost to Iowa at Iowa, so I assume we'll give them a loss since it's in East Lansing this time around and we're similar teams -- very dependent on one scorer (Neitzel/Huluska). And Indiana, well I expect DJ White to have a field day with Idong Ibok/Goran Sutan/Drew Naymick/Marquise Gray down low.

Also, the OSU game is skewed. We were down big in that game and OSU let off the gas and Neitzel had the best 2nd half of his life. I wouldn't count that as a great loss since the game was well in hand. If you do count it as a great loss, do you count the Penn State comeback against OSU as a great loss for them? I don't.

Just heard Smith is out for the season but Carwell could be back for the postseason. Weird.

UConn's pretty much done unless they win the Big East Tournament. then again, we knew that since conference play started.

They have to MAKE the big east tourney first. Something they are currently not going to do.

they can't be convicts. considering the ages of most of the players, they'd all be tried as minors.

For the ACC
IN:
UNC
UVA
Duke
VTech
BC
MD(as long as they finish at least 8-8 in the ACC)

GT could get in with a strong finish. I think FSU and Clemson both have played themselves out, both of em looked to be in about a month ago.

bigmike
02/22/07, 11:24 PM
I think MSU is in as they got their 2nd signature win that they desperately needed when they beat Wisconsin.

FSU in? 5-9 in the ACC... good one. FSU out, Clemson out.

Illinois RPI jumped to 30 with everyone losing ahead of them and beating Michigan. Everyone else's profiles are slipping behind theirs.

strength of schedule, 10, remaining ACC games vs. NC state and Miami. A few ACC tourney wins to get them at 20+ wins and it's possible.

Haha possible sure. They could win the ACC Tourney and get the automatic qualifier. But probable? Not in my opinion. And in right now? You'd be hard-pressed to find many people who think so.

Sure they got some cupcakes coming up, but they are reeling too. 5 losses in a row I believe it is.

preppyak
02/23/07, 12:40 PM
Yeah...the ACC may be good...but it is not the Big East last year, you won't get in by virtue of being 7-9 or 8-8 in my opinion...not without enough signature wins. Florida is nice...and the win at Duke is decent...but give me a meaningful one outside of that.

They have 3 home losses in the ACC, and got drubbed back to back by Pitt and Wisco in the early season...not the profile of a team bound for anything but the NIT.

As for Clemson, 2-8 in their last 10 games with games @BC and @Va Tech...they might finish up their season 3-10, which is atrocious, and the tournament committee does take that into consideration.

The win @ ODU looks nice, but outside of that they are weak at best.

Yeah...its KU, A&M and Texas in for sure at this point

And I believe overall 5 teams make it...so, that leaves the race between K-state, OSU, and Tech

OSU has played like ass recently...so Tech needs to beat OSU, and so does K-State, and they basically assure that OSU ends up below .500 in the Big 12, and they claim those spots

yea, i cant belive OSU is playing this bad now after the first half they had.
I would like to see K state make it to the dance.

The tournament and media should've listened to me when I said Clemson was horribly overrated when they cracked the top 25.
