I'm surprised this hasn't been talked about yet. On February 14th, Al Franken announced that he will be running for the U.S. Senate for Minnesota in 2008. I've always really enjoyed Al Franken's work. I loved all of his work on SNL and I've kept up with him on his work on politics. He's always seemed to me to be the response to Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh except not as extreme and not crazy. I love it when he debates with them. But I'm excited to see him officially get into politics.

What's really interesting about the race is the person he's going up against. He's going against Norm Coleman. A republican that has pretty close ties to the the Bush Administration. He's a pretty big republican who's pro-life and anti-gay marriage. This is really gonna to be one of the most interesting races to follow. I'm really looking forward to seeing Franken debate.

While interesting, I find the man too much of a sensationalist for me to take seriously. I hope his venture into politics brings out a more rational Franken and then maybe I'll be interested.

I just hope he can win. It would be a waste not to, considering Coleman is very beatable. Besides the fact that Republicans nationally are unpopular, especially regarding the Iraq War, Coleman himself has been way too cozy with Bush. Minnessota may not be liberal in the N.E sense, but between growing concerns with the chaos in Iraq, and a general unease about jobs, wages, and healthcare costs, this light blue state can certainly provide the Dems with a Senate pickup.

He did come out against the War though, if I recall correctly.

Well, if there is anywhere he has a shot of taking the senate seat it would be Minn.
