which band is the biggest sellout from chicago?

chrisPAIN
02/17/07, 06:18 PM
um, why is alkaline trio's name up there? and does the audition really have enough fans to be considered a sell out??? come on, they've never been on MTV or mainstream radio and they've never headlined a tour to my knowledge

ManicanParty49
02/17/07, 06:21 PM
Honestly I chose Plain White T's, cause they are just terrible. "Hate is a strong word, but I really really really don't like you"...are you serious? They couldn't come up with anything better than that? I guess I consider them a bigger sell out, because they aren't as good as Fall Out Boy is, and don't deserve the attention they have.

the winner should be mest.

that doesnt make a band a sellout....a sellout is a band who changes the music they make for the sole purpose of making more money.....brand new was on mtv, mainstream radio, and have headlined a tour and theyre not a sellout

frankly, i don't consider any of the above bands sellouts. just being on MTV (as much as i hate it), signing to a larger label and running some mainstream singles doesn't make you a sellout. selling out is when you change your values, mindset and the way you treat your fans. its more or less a morals battle verses how much money you make.

02/17/07, 08:10 PM
this is a crap poll. none of these bands have sold out. signing to a diff. label to get your music heard by more people does NOT mean you have sold out. lame.

i guess it doesnt help that the poll creator is the merch guy for the junior varsity, just cuz tjv havent gotten as much attention as these chicago bands doesnt make these bands sell outs either.

02/17/07, 08:13 PM
Most of these bands shouldn't even be up there, except for Fall Out Boy and The Academy Is... and maybe Plain White T's... They suck but they haven't really sold out and what about Mest? They went to a major label just to release inferior albums

Easy Fall Out Boy. The Academy Is and Plain White T's haven't really sold out in my opinion. Cause they've always had that sound and been that kind of band. Fall Out Boy definetly changed their sound to be more commercial.

who ever created this poll obviously did it for the mere fact that people would get pissed over the ridulous amount of fall out boy votes. and by putting alkaline trio on there it doesnt look to rediculous but it is. fall out boy basicly got huge then let all there friends tag along. total bull shit. let the real talent be found not shitty poppy emo bands that recycle songs over and over again.

02/19/07, 02:46 PM
The Audition, they sold out their original lead singer, by letting Victory replace him under his nose, and then just booting him out in favor of Danny LAWLZ Stevens...atleast thats the story I heard and I know some people.

Fall Out Boy havent sold out because there sound has barely changed.

its not only about the music though. their mannerisms...the way they act like they are op top of the world. pete being a complete total fuck stick.

costing 100,000+ to play shows...

selling out is the term.

selling out is the term.
a. they ARE on top of the world
b. costing that much to play a college show, which the college will make right back by ticket prices, is clearly irrelevant.
c. you have failed miserably at proving the meaning of 'sell out'

i for one knew they would sell out. they started as a joke anyway.

a. no they are not. they are a fad. pete thinks he is on top of the world but soon will come crashing down.
b. they were 25K last year and it is not just for colleges. it is in general. and for colleges to make that kind of money back for a show you would be asking us to jack up prices to $30+. no band of fobs caliber is worth more than $20 for a concert.
c. selling out is not just band wise. look at the way pete wentz has acted. omg...our cd leaking is the biggest hit to the internet since y2k!!11!! he acts like a stuck up prick who thinks so highly of himself that when he shits it smells like pure flowers.

selling out is not just about the music. it is about the look, it is about the way they act, the way people perceive them. their music as a whole...though 10x more cheesy and meh nowadays...isnt as far a change from tttyg as say a band like the starting line or reel big fish (NOT SAYING THESE BANDS SOLD OUT) but the way they act and manner themselves is in a manner that yes...they can be deemed sell outs.

thats not true.

if you are a stalwart environmentalist and work to preserve forests but dont make a good deal of money. lets say you get a job for a lobbying company asking for logging rights in say alaska...but you get paid a hefty amount...and you take it.

would that be selling out?

i think so

bad poll

Agreed.

This is all bullshit anyways. None of these bands have dumbed down their music to the point where it isn't the same or where it doesn't have the original passion, just to make a quick buck.

While some people may hate Pete for how he acts, that has nothing to do with selling out. I personally don't know him so I can't tell you if he's an asshole. But he still does everything he can to make the scene bigger and better, and he clearly still cares about the music he's making. I don't think the whole "tortured artist" persona is a facade. So people need to get the fuck off his back...

This poll is just fucking ridiculous for the pure fact that they put Alkaline Trio on the list. Every album has that same Alkaline Trio sound. If they started writing songs about high school lunch in the cafeteria instead of, say, "step 1: slit my throat..." then we can throw up the sell out flag.

a. do you know the defintion of a fad? here copy and pasted off wikipedia.. A fad, also known as a craze, refers to a fashion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fashion) that becomes popular in a culture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture) relatively quickly, but loses popularity dramatically. im pretty sure thats what i always knew what a fad was. Fall Out Boy has been around since 2001, not once have they 'lost popularity' in any of their 6 year existence, but have only GAINED fans and will continue doing so for years to come. yes i said years to come, because im sorry, people will care about this band, and they care about their fans. this band has potential to stick around for a LONG time, mark my words.
b. ticket prices indicate a band's status in society. fall out boy will sell out a shit load of honda civic tour dates at 35 bucks a pop, 16000+ sized venues, im pretty sure they can do whatever the hell they want and still get away with it, right or not.
c. i guarantee if you were faced with the fame FOB received you wouldnt know what to do withyourself. change in personality aka the way you act, is a natural cause of fame or becoming a celebrity, 'selling out' should only be related to music, and FOB has stuck with FBR with a signing to a major label to help promote the band, nothing wrong with that, is there?

your argument is that the music of FOB has not changed(besides chessey-ness) but only because Pete acts weird, they are sell outs? What about the other 3 band members? they have slowly let fame affect them, but a band consists of all the members, and just because one stands out, you cant deem FOB as a whole a sell out, because you said yourself, the music hasnt changed. They still are and always will be Fall Out Boy to me.

What??? I don't even like Fall Out Boy but I know just from hearing their new single that they've changed DRASTICALLY since their very first album. I saw them at midwest music summit in Indianapolis in like 2001 at a hole in the wall club and they were really cool down to earth guys. Do you expect them to ever play a venue like that again when they could take a stadium and make tens of thousands more on just that one date? And now I hear they're working with Timbaland or whatever that rapper's name is that steals other people's beats, and you're going to say that THAT isn't for the money? Grow up man and get with it, just because you are obviously in love with Fall Out Boy for whatever reason doesn't mean you can't admit the truth. Who cares about "selling out" or whatever each person in this poll THINKS that means (everyone obviously has differentiating opinions), to say that FOB hasn't changed is outrageous.

Im not a fall out boy fan whatsoever, but, I dont consider them to be sellouts.

I think their train of thought was ... "You know, hardcore is a lot of fun to play, but, there is very little money it. We like rock, so, lets write some pop rock songs."

Which they did, everyone loved them, they got huge, and now they are millionaires. I mean, can you really blame the guys?? I think that kicks ass. Hell, its not their fault everyone digs their tunes....
