great song! i have a recent story somewhat involving that tune. driving a few days back i had jim cranking in my car & started really getting into "wait for me" during the piano roll near the 2.50min mark. resulting in me almost crashing (well swiping) an apple stand haha. feeling rather foolish, i jumped out, told the bloke i heard good things of his apples, hence my abrasiveness on arrival, bought a bag & left haha

lovin' it. a lot of early lidell fans claim he "sold out" with jim, front the electronic frontiers he was venturing down previously. those claims really made me laugh, some folks just can't stand change or when their favourite artists get some mild exposure. i don't think anyone knows what "selling out" mean anymore. it definitely doesn't mean creating one of the best soul records in recent memory

Is Multiply electronic mixed in with soul? If so, that could be interesting, but I don't know if it can beat out Jim. haha I don't even understand what it means to sell out. The artists should be allowed to make whatever kind of music they want without having the public backlash, especially in terms of Lidell who isn't that popular/mainsteam yet.

He was quite captivating live. He got up there in this absolutely ridiculous outfit and just commanded the stage. I often have a hard time really getting into a live show if I haven't listened to the music much previously but between his incredible voice, silly faces, and entertaining yet somewhat sporadic dance moves, I was completely enthralled. Anyone check the new song from the new album yet? I'm really getting into it. May 18th couldn't come soon enough.

Why is no one talking about Compass? I actually kind of thought this would happen with a lot of people who became fans upon the release of Jim. But I'm loving the new album, this is more like it from the rough music-maker. It's inventive, knee-quaking, & whacky. It brings together dance, soul, electronica, folk, funk, gospel, with Lidell unifying it by way of his gutsy & sweet vocals, with an obsessive passion for genre-mashing. There's also such an awesome brittle distorted rawness throughout. But it's that seamless variety that makes Compass interesting & fantastic, & also the album Lidell has probably been wanting to make for more than a decade. & I for one, am so happy he did.

While compiling my favorite albums of the year for the Sun on the Sand list, I spun Compass a lot (spoilers: it made the list) and am doing so as I type this. This record was the work most influenced by the surrounding Warp Records ecosystem.

So I'd never heard of him before Sean linked the Beck remix of "Completely Exposed." What's a good place to start?

Jim is an outstanding album, & a great introduction, but not the usual side to Jamie. Maybe start with Multiply & work your way forward from there mate.
