I'm almost positive the next single's "Thriller" (They played it on Carson at least.), and if they could get Jay-Z in the video and have it blow like it should than they'll have 1,000,000 sold in no time.

if i had it my wawy the singles would go in this order:

1. arms race
2. thanks for the memories
3. thriller
4. bang the doldrums
5. golden

i dont neccesarily love golden but i believe itd be good for them to test out the ballad market, maybe pick up some of the hinder-type fans and get even bigger?

-is 5 singles unheard of?

I think Thanks for the memories will blow the sales up in a big way.
Its definatly the "dance dance" of this record.

No, it isn't unheard of. Panic! had The Only Difference, I Write Sins, But It's Better If You Do, Lying Is The Most Fun, and Build God. but for some reason I don't think Thriller would be a good choice of a single. Its a great intro track, don't get me wrong, but I just don't think its a potential single. My choice of singles would be the same as yours except swapping Thriller with Me & You.

I hope Golden wont be realeased as a single... I just imagine that the video would be really nauseating. A rain soaked slow-mo ballad video just isnt fall out boy.

Yeah! I mean, it /really/ fucked up the sales of The Shin's Wincing The Night Away, which leaked 3 months before release and got to #2 on the Billboard charts and being the best charting release for Sub-Pop ever. Funny how people see things isn't it?

Edit: And people think Golden should be a single? It's /easily/ the weakest song on the album.

Really? I don't think so. I think The (After) Life of the Party is, though. Listen to the instrumental version of Golden from the Leaked in London EP. You might find a new appreciation in the song.

mick2late
02/21/07, 06:53 AM
And what about Hum Hallelujah as a single? I know it is quite similar to Sugar, We're Going Down, but it is still a catchy, solid song that would make a good single, in my opinion.

Golden is the lowlight of the album along with that After Live nonsense. That said, I agree, the live version is /a lot/ better, which is as close as you get to a miracle for a FOB song.

Why Bother?
02/21/07, 07:06 AM
I think you're all forgetting... Isn't this the new single? I heard Pete saying that this video was somewhat of a "pre-single"..

EIq_RLhKw9U

Anyway... I think "I'm Like A Lawyer..." will definetly be a single. It's pretty obvious. Thriller is a great great opening track but I doubt it would work as a single. Singles should be:

I'm Like A Lawyer With The...
Thnks Fr Th Mmrs
Bang The Doldrums
Hum Hallelujah

I really really love Golden. Maybe they should release it as a single but the single version should use guitars and drums, if not, it will fail. Me thinks..

Why Bother?

Golden is so not the weakest song on the album. "This Ain't A Scene..." is one of the weakest for sure, I still love it though...

And "The (After) Life Of The Party" is one of my personal favorites, it's just one hell of a great mellow song.. I love it..

The leak didn't hurt them...and there are alot of bands whose cd's get leaked..can't believe people are acting like a FOB leak is such a big deal, they are doing great for themselves, almost going gold in 2 weeks is a dream for 98% of all bands...maybe 99%.......it's not about the money is it.."Please don't download our cd, buy it!"...yea...

You're right if they choose that as their next single and have Jay-Z appear in the video and all but to me...i don't think Thriller has enough potential to be a single and it's one of my least favorite songs on the new album and to me...using Jay-Z would just be an advantage and NOT sticking true to them...

No one wants "The Take Over, The Break's Over" for a single? I'm all for "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" as the next single, but "The Take Over..." is probably my favorite song on the album. I honestly don't see "Thriller" as a single at all though. I know it wouldn't be a conventional single, but a video for "You're Crashing, But You're No Wave" would be amazing as a story within a video.

i agree with that to a certain extent, but sometimes no matter how much i love a sing, if its been made into a single, people who werent really into FOB will start singing it and then that will escalate into them going on about how much they love FOB when they havent heard other older stuff.

Theres no way it outsells FUCT. As much as I like the cd, it isn't anywhere near as commercially friendly as their previous endeavors. Almost every track on FUCT could have been a single, Id say that only about half or less of the songs on IOH have that potential.
