fuck.
Aghh, that sucks dude. Did you have all your songs backed up, or on your computer? Because if not, that'd really suck.
iPods are shit though. If they get shaken a lot, it stuffs the hard-drive up. I've got a 20 gig sony hd-walkman, and it's held up amazingly. Truth be told, i still use my cd discman a lot too though, haha.

I have most of my shit, I figure its a good way to start over anyway and put on what I really like.
I'd like to look into alternative devices, if anyone has something to suggest. I don't feel like dealing with this again.
I probably wouldn't recommend the sony hd-walkman that i have, as sturdy and well made as it is, because the 'Sony Connect' software that you put the songs on it with, is shit. So slow, and complicated.
Looks nice though, haha.

depends on your price range. the 30gb Creative Zen Vision W is a good idea, and the lithium ion battery you charge is replaceable. but it's $300, so maybe something smaller

I had my iPod for a total of 10 months. It started crapping out around 7 months. Began slowing down, freezing untill my harddrive just went. I now have a Creative Zen Vision:M 30GB and so far we are happy together.
As for your iTunes issue. If you imported your songs with iTunes... they work on other programs and Players because they are in that stupid AAC file type. They don't work on Creatives at least. Look into that or you'll be faced with re-ripping your music collection.

I have a year old Creative...its a Zen: 6 gigs. No video or color lcd fancyness, but 2,500 songs is all I need.
So I guess I would recommend a creative...
There is also new sony's on the market, which have a 50 hour battery life! If ou charge it for 3 mins, you get a 3 hour charge...
I have had a sony befor and I really like them, the only bad thing is that I think it converts the file format to "openMG" ... which you cant re-format to mp3, or wma, if you got a different brand player in the future...
And Re-ripping sucks.

o rly?
the fact that it stopped working because of the sun was the part i didn't understand.

that happened to me when i had my 20G one,
but it broke because i was in a car without a seat belt and my friend decided to hit the gas and swerve from side to side, so i was flying around in the back seat, and my right pocket smashed against the door of the car about 12 times,
thus creating a broken iPod,
although it had kept up nicely until then,
now i have a 60G and it works great, i am planning on dropping it a ton until it breaks right before the warranty runs out

but sorry, i thought mine had died once, but i just needed to charge it in a wall charger, and do the menu + center button hold thing and it kicked back on after two days charging.

Let it dry out for a while and blowdry it out and such. Tell them it just stopped working. It's your best shot.
