No, if you're willing to get away from the tube and look. Greenday's early work was good. I don't really care for the new CD though. There are some really amazing bands that play at the corner, or birthday partys, but won't get noticed because their not "it".
And there isn't such a think as an "emo" band, or good one for that matter, because all the good ones (e.g; Sunny Day Real Estate, At the Drive in, Rites of Spring) they actually deny being emo. Some say they were a new form of punk. Others say they were actually Indie or Alternative.

For one thing I think they ventured into a style that just didn't suit them. +44's new cd is kinda what I was looking for with them on TOYPAG's follow-up. And note I never said it was a bad record but I find it to be the least enjoyable of the albums. The flow of the tracks is also another thing that's always seemed awkward. Even the "punk-pop" songs that they had on it weren't up to their standards. The interlude also was horrendous and really takes me out of the record for a bit which was a contributing factor to the flow problem I addressed before.

All of their albums are pretty cool and unique, and for one thing they didn't have any albums that sucked, including American Idiot. If you really listen closely to the AI album and forget about how overated it was....just for ONE second, then you might actually enjoy it, it has some really good tracks on there and the drumming is excellent

And honestly lets look at Green Day's rise to popularity next to FOB's

Green Day starts underground as the band that everyone claims as their own. Sound Familiar? Green Day puts out a record or two (dookie specifically) that is many people's favorite GD release to date. Still sounding familiar? (TTTYG anyone?) They then put out numerous albums that sell incredibly well. Just like Fall Out Boy. My argument is that i prefer FOB's post underground albums over Green Day.

Of course there is a flaw with that. Dookie went about 7 times platinum if im not mistaken. So really you didnt know about Green Day until they were huge anyway.

Their new stuff is all about production. They are on a level now that doesn't allow for mistakes/raw emotion. Everything is precise which makes it a whole lot different from what they used to write. We'll see what their new album does - I'm not going to take any guesses.

Plus, this will give me a good reason to post my qualms with American Idiot again, to perhaps get some actual conversation going again:

- Tracks seven through nine are incredibly painful to try to get through, boring songs.
- I think that having "Homecoming" switched in sequencing order with "Whatsername" would not only have made a much stronger musical climax to the album, but also would have not severly hindered the story that was being told.
- While "American Idiot" is one of my favorite songs on the album, I don't think that it really adds to the story, nor does it set the stage for the lyrical journey you are about to partake in. It probably should have been left off and allowed the album to start with "Jesus of Suburbia", which I think would have made a fine opener.
- One thing I always enjoyed about Green Day was Billie Joe mentioning in some interview a while ago how he prefers to steer away from utilizing current trends/brands/whatever in his lyrics so that the songs don't become dated. This album veered a bit away from that and, while I understand that it was necessary to an extent for the type of story that was taking place, I still cringe when those points come up (especially at the "I feel asleep while watching Spike TV" line, UGH)

I find the main problem with Green Day's music is the lack of replay value they have. I've been listening to them for 10 years, it just seems like enough is enough, I used to LOVE Green Day. Now I try to listen to them and think to myself I'd rather be listening to 359385 other bands right now. It's also not that I've just worn them out, if that was the case I wouldn't be listening to Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters anymore, which I do, and have for the last 10 years. Yet I'm not sick of them, just Green Day.

I also can't get over the fact, a few years ago, Billie Joe claimed guys need to start being men and stop wearing girls pants like a bunch of pussies...look at him now.

Yeah. How about you do it too? Try it. Try being just a guy that A) becomes a signature singer of one of the greatest rock bands of the past 30 years, B) spends a good portion of his time doing things like USO tours and West Memphis 3 work, C) writes novels & poetry D) tours the world doing either/or music or spoken word and then E) somehow have the ability to have some of the best taste in music (That was the main benefit of buying 'Get In The Van'. That motivated me to listen to Einsturzende Neubauten, The Gun Club, King Crimson, Sham 69, UK Subs, The Minutemen, Husker Du, Bad Brains... SOOO much good stuff he kept rambling about in that book.)
