i just want to know what everyone thinks about instrumental tracks on CD's
some people think that they are a nice touch to an album, adding mood to the CD
others think that they are annoying and should be cut out or replaced w/ regular songs
i have mixed feelings about them
i think they are awesome, if they're done right [ex. Thursday "Arc-Lamps, Signal Flares..."]
but when there are too many [ex. Chiodos' All's Well That Ends Well] they begin to annoy me
and some are just unnecessary [the interlude in the (+44) album]
so what are your feelings?

HAH I was about to say that...
I love preludes and interludes, but it did make me mad seeing 3 on the Chiodos album, cuz I really love the rest of that album, I just wanted to hear more regulars.

For this poll you could have made more choices....like Instrumental rock, classical, bands, smphonys, orchestras, etc.
i like the chiodos one, reminds of the circus, and the thursday one kicks ass too

Haha thats the only Chiodos instrumental i didnt really like...
cuz the whole carnival, lala land sound didnt apeal to me.
I would like to hear all the instrumental interludes on The Path on a b-side CD. I dont think TEN will do that for their B-side release (which I dont know if it'll happen for sure) but some of the interludes were so well done and beautiful, not that the dialouge was always bad but it seemed like it got in the way sometimes of the music sometimes, but like I said thats more the music being really good than the dialouge being bad.

if they have a good sound then its good... if not i could care less and i leave it off my comp/ipod or skip the track
Also why do you Americans say "could care less" when it doesn't even make any sense. It should be "couldn't care less."
we do things different around these parts

listen to post rock kids.
That is a ridiculous name for a genre.
Listen to jazz kids.

sometimes they take away from an album, like when bands throw in an instrumental on an ep or a full length that only has 10 tracks including the instrumental.

exactly, on the chiodos album, there were only 9 regular tracks, and 3 instrumentals...which pissed me off

i could care less. sometimes they are done well (aka mastodon instrumentals) but sometimes they are stupid and too much of it (TSOAF the tiger and the duke, Chiodos AWTEW). Most of the time I skip em anyways.

Noooo!!! I'm really alone on this one...to me, instrumentals make albums much less enjoyable...especially intros to an album...Brand New's new album could have been nearly flawless if they had replaced the two obnoxious instrumentals...I'm trying to think if there's any instrumental that I like...I dunno...just not a fan.

Most intrumentals in pop punk/popcore stuff suck but actually instrumental bands are excellent
Are you familiar with Day For Airstrikes? Local Manchester instrumental band.

I was just about to say something along those lines.
i think that instrumental bands like explosions in the sky and by the end of tonight are better than many bands with vocalists.

i really think that instrumentals can add a certain mood to an album. i think treos did a good job on this on bthats (i know they weren't actually instrumentals, but they really tied all the songs and melodies together on that album...)

Una Corda has this instumental song which is pretty much, 9 minutes. No singing, but it kicks ass anyway

Some bands can do amazing instrumentals. Other bands shouldn't attempt it. I love the Mahavishnu Orchestra and they're all instrumental. I also think that Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield is amazing and all instrumental. Plus most jazz is instrumental and jazz is sweet. It really all depends on the artist and the style of music I guess.
