what the hell is Hot Topic?

OK so I live in England and when I read these forums I hear you lot talking about 'Hot Topic' and then I heard that Avoid One Thing tune on the Warped comp, but I just wondered what it is, and why people seem to talk about it/rip the piss out of it so much?

I mean I take it it's a shop, but is it some sort of 'street' or 'rock' fashion bollocks or something?

its a store that sells cd's clothes and mostly everything. but they think it is real punk rawk stuff, but most people beg to differ

OldCrow912, I can't stop looking at your avatar. That is the freaking awesomest thing I've seen in a long time.

As for Hot Topic, it's this store at most malls. It has some punk stuff and lots of goth stuff too. People here like to rip on it because they recognize teeny-bopper fifteen-year-olds from their schools who see Good Charlotte on MTV and then decide that punk is "in", so while they're at the mall to buy some American Eagle clothes, they also go to Hot Topic to buy themselves a pyramid-studded belt, and those black gel wrist bracelet things.

Personally, it doesn't bother me. If the MTV-crowd is deciding that "punk" is cool, that just means that their taste has improved a little since the decline of Britney.

And sometimes I go to Hot Topic. Like what if I need a studded wristband? Hot Topic is a good place to get one. What I don't like about them is all their goth stuff and an overabundance of Weezer t-shirts.

ahhhhh, I can see why it pisses people off though, we don't really have anything like that over here.

What we do have though is insane amounts of kids aged between like 8 and 14 wearing oversized bootleg, Slipknot, Sum41, Marilyn Manson, or Murderdolls hoodies. They look like such knobs.

Occasionally you get like 1 18 year old wearing one and they ALWAYS seem to be wearing a pair of skin tight cargos and doc martins, and a wallet chain literally inches from the floor.

Is this a global phenomenon or is it just over here?

hot topic has some good band shirts. besides that it is lame goth stuff, people decked out in black and spikes that sit in the damn store all day and think they are better than everyone else.

there is no hot topic in Australia.....

Goths get bashed in brisbane and anytime i see them trying to be cool i say something smart ass to em.... And the singer from my band likes to yell "HAHA YOUR FACE IS WHITER THAN MY ASS"

hot topic just sells stuff made to look like stuff punks used to make for themselves... only corporate packaged to cost 5 times as much. remember kids, nothing says anarchy like copywritten logos smeared over merchandise made by starving kids in 3rd world contries.
