I would like you to run a record label like that. They don't ship a million cds expecting to sell 100,000. They ship out CDs based on a supply and demand system. Obviously they're never going to sell every copy, but there's no way that Fountains of Wayne shipped a million cds without selling a half million at least.

I used to hate, hate, hate Fall Out Boy. The hooks weren't catchy to me; it was just a lot of vocal rambling and boring pop music. Then I got involved in the whole debate about the leak, economics, and political correctness, cause I thought Wentz was right in what he said. Then after a bit, I found the B-Sides thread and got "G.I.N.A.S.F.S.", which has to be the catchiest song I have ever heard. So I am now proud to announce that I am a full-blown fan, and congrats to them.

100% agreed. This used to be one of my favorite bands, but the last 2 cds have been SERIOUS disappointments. It's even sadder to see MCR going the same road. :\

umm...i don't think fountains ever shipped a million...MAYBE with their last cd, but i heard that only went gold.

I'm sure their record label knew they were going to hit atleast platinum based off their FUCT sales.
So it's no surprise that they SHIPPED a million. That doesn't mean they actually HIT platinum within the three weeks.

Their sales were roughly 300K the first week, so my guess would be that they won't hit platinum until atleast the 8th week, depending on how the second single does.

According to the RIAA searchable database (http://www.riaa.com/gp/database/default.asp), none of their full lenth albums have even been certified gold. They're single for Stacy's Mom went Gold (http://www.riaa.com/gp/certification/criteria.asp) (ie: shipped at least 500,000).
