I would be surprised if any of Hitchcock's films were public domain.

Really? I need the old British ones from the 1920s, so I figured if any, those would be.

Copyrights expire 70 years after the death of the artist. Since Hitchcock died in 1980, his films will be in the public domain in 2050. Even so, if his estate was passed down to his family, they can pretty much renew the copyright protection forever.

I'm not certain on this, but aren't film copyrights maintained by the production company?
Hitchcock would technically be listed as the author, but the production company would be the claimant and owner.

hmmm, you're probably right. I was just spouting off what I learned from one of my society & law classes, haha. However, I would think that production companies would keep copyrights for a longer period of time so that they could collect the maximum amount of royalties and whatnot.
