brainstorm about forum problrm

ok. i dont know about you all, and i know im not supposed to bitch about it, but its hard to get on this site lately due to the onset of n00bs. (im not saying im not a n00b, im just stating the facts...). now although there have been prior suggestions as to how to improve the situation such as:


1) we don't look to kindly to people new to this site, the way the klan doesn't look to kindly to people new to america. this is mostly due to the lack of bandwith, so i offer two possible solutions to the problem.

1) noobs can't post... ever, they aren't punk enough

2) (this one's a little less harsh) we enstate a group of wise, all-knowing AP elders, who will determine whether a noob stays or has their IP banned.

while i think its good people are thinking of ideas like this, i think we could probobly think of more sensible ways to solve this situation. one of them is fundraising. if we secure enough funds, cant we purchase more bandwidth? (i dont know a lot about computer but whater)


i.e.,
-make it possible for users to donate via paypal as songmeanings.net recently did
-if someone can think of merch ap can sell?

also i think we should stop taking it out on newbies, they didnt do anything wrong :(

there's nothing we can do about this problem....just because we're elders doesn't mean we should choose if a person stays on the forum or not. we cant really deny anyone of coming here. just hang in there...tate will fix this all asap...the second he is able to fix it, he will.

if you really want it fixed, set up a group for sending tate money, he can use it.

I would think about donating, maybe like what, $5 or $10. but seriously. I wanna know why when I started posting here in January and February and even early March, we could have 300 users on the forums, it would run fast, the main page would run fast(and this is when i had dial-up) and all of a sudden Tate says: Well, having this many users on the forums is taking up bandwidth and making the site run slow.

But really, I had shitty 33.6k dial-up, and the site was fast. It's almost slower NOW with cable then it was before. I have a strange suspicion that he's bullshitting us because he wants these forums gone.

Jerry, i can assure you Tate does not want these forums gone. He loves these forums. That's why he even set it up the comments on the news posts on the main page, to be posted in the forum's. If he was trying to make these forums dissapear he would deffinately not set it up this way. Also he realizes half of the ap.net visitors only come to his site for the forums, without them his site wouldnt be half as popular as it is. You're all wrong on this one dude, I talk to him all the time about his forums and were always looking for ways to improve them or make them more user friendly.

i know not a lot of people would donate but i think theres enough people that it might helpe and even if it doesnt help enough, whats the harm in trying. and like personally i wouldnt donate a LOT but 1-5 dollars with the idea that if say everyone donates an average of a dollar... but i agree with everyone maybeoneday said, i just wanted to throw some ideas out there in case it helped

yea man, but why did he say that it was running slow when in all reality, it wasn't? maybe it was just his computer. because this site has always been(with the exception of the forum fuck-ups the last month) lightning fast loading. even when i had fuckin dial-up, it was quick. i'm just so god damn sick of seeing the fuckin Busy message or the white screen....

I've never seen the busy server message, so i don't know how badly it sucks. But trust me, i can 100% assure you Tate want's these forums here.

OK maybe this is a corny idea, but I'm assuming alot of people on the forums are in/are friends with up and coming bands?

Well why don't you get everyone who's interested who uses the forums to send you a song so you guy can put together just a cheap AP.net comp? Sell it for like $5, the forum users get good exposure, and AP.net gets some money.

tate just uses a shitty ass server. he seriously needs to fucking switch if he wants his site to remain popular.

RTS has close to as many hits as here and they pay $65 a year for their hosting... and they allow pictures in their threads...

it's just my personal opinion that tate is a lazy bastard that doesn't want to take the time to fix his site (although I can't blame him, this place has become such a piece of shit anyways)

You could be waiting a VERY long while. Jason is a very hard man to get ahold of. Believe me, i know.
