Hey everyone - I figured I would do recs old-school this week and rock the write-ups. Check em out and leave me some feedback:
Chase Pagan (http://www.myspace.com/chasepagan) - Oh Musica is one of those albums that is worth getting excited about early. I just got my hands on it, and it is incredibly diverse, complex, and intriguing overall. It is a really tough record to classify - as fucked up as it sounds, it sounds like what you'd get if you tossed Something Corporate, Radiohead, and ragtime piano jazz into a blender. Pagan's vocals are top-notch, and his instrumentation and arrangements are refreshingly thoughtful. The result works, and it is going to amaze a lot of people when it hits this summer. Listen to "Spanish Tongue" and tell me what you think.
The Snake The Cross The Crown (http://www.myspace.com/snakecrosscrown) - After a debut that blended together progressive and folk/alt-country elements, TSTCTC has returned with an even more organic album. The amazing thing about this band is how unconcerned they seem with catering to the masses with their brand of music. And really, that makes me like them even more. Listen to "The Great American Smokeout" off Cotton Teeth if you haven't already.
Secondhand Serenade (http://www.myspace.com/secondhandserenade) - If you loved Dashboard Confessional back when it was just Chris Carabba and a guitar, then this is an artist you need to check out. The tunes are stripped down to vocals and acoustic components, and the album ends up being quite striking. Whether you are trying to relax or get laid, Awake will help you do either.
Deas Vail (http://www.myspace.com/deasvail) - A smooth, chilled out piano-rock band that will probably end up being quite popular in short while. Their debut LP, All The Houses Look The Same hits this Tuesday, and is poised for word of mouth success. If you like Mae, Jack's Mannequin, or artists like that, check these guys out.
