yeah, thats what I was thinking. If harrassment is such a problem at public schools that they need to form an entire new school, than the school board, or whatever, should start looking to make some changes to correct the problem. In fact, its sorta disgusting that solution to ending gay-bashing is to seperate them from the rest of the community.

Horrible idea...should we segregate blacks too, because they are a minority as well, wait we already did that, and look how well that turned out. What about the nerds who get beaten up every day, are they going to make a nerd school? I mean, its just absurd. If its really a problem, transfer schools, or if you have the money go to a private school. I wouldnt have a real problem if this was a private gay school, because then tax dollars wouldnt be paying for this, but its a public gay school, meaning tax dollars do pay for that. And did you see that building? That is the nicest looking school I have ever seen...and what if a straight kid wants to go there. Denied, because he is straight. This is ridiculous. Why should homosexual kids seperate themselves from others? The only thing they will learn in this school is what it's like to deal with other homosexual or bisexual kids. It will offer them no perspective on what it will be like living the rest of their lives with that sexual preference in the real world, which is made up of mainly heterosexuals.

yeah, but its a public school, so tax dollars will be going towards it. I think the smarter, and eventually more effective, solution would be to end the intolerance and violence inside the school, rather than create an entire new school.

By building this school, its not making an effort to change the minds and ways of the kids who are being abusive, and its not teaching the abused kids to stand up for themselves and face the real world, as well as all the difficulties that come with it.

no, GLBTQ students are not forced to go to this school and it is not closed to students who identify themselves as straight. As for just trying to discipline the violently homophobic in the school system, the board can't do it. New ork city schools have had 15 chancellors in the past ten years, there is no way to keep the schools in control when the future of the shcool gov't is unsure.

If it let straight kids in, why would it be considered a gay school? Its a gay school...there will be no straight kids out of that 100, sure they say its open to everyone, but read between the lines. Like check out this paragraph from the link ...

Arts and culinary arts...completely gay. They are preparing them for jobs at bistros and on TLC. And have you seen inside the school? Rainbow colored chairs. Its a dumb idea anyway, each studet gets like an average of 40,000 dollars spent on them....in my high school the average student gets 3,800 dollars....fair? Not at all. People need to learn to interact with other people, because thats what the real world is about....this school will only harm people. Its like the Bubble Boy. You spend all of your life in a bubble, you dont build up immunity to anything, and once you step outside that bubble, you are in for a surprise. Its a really stupid thing to do, and the worst part is that tax payers are paying for this...if you want to ruin your kids life on your own dollar, fine by me, but when you ask for someone elses, its complete bullshit.

I cook dinner here once a week and I am very into art at school (I never got into drama but that wasn't for lack of interest) and I am completely straight. Just because a school teaches these things doesn't mean it's for gays. And rainbow colored chairs, so what? Who cares? First off, it was a joke, but a joke with truth. Look at "the arts". Then look at construction working or truck driving or doctors or any other "un-artsy" job. Which has the highest amount of gays? The population of gays in america I belive is 6-8%, thats gay, bi, lesbian, and everyone else with a messed up sexual compass. What percent of interior designers (male) are gay...I would argue that the majority of them are gay, mainly because they are more in touch with their feminine side and whatnot, gives them a better sence of style, ie. "Queer Eye".

first off a financially based class system isn't forced......those that work hard gain.......and PEOPLE fear socialism because its oppressive (taxation, hell look at sweden) and leads to corruption of power as it goes further left, which will create an elite upper class, much like the one your against, only this one didn't earn it......

second......id never call anyone racist (although those on the left do it ALL the time), but the left does have a way of always bring up a persons race even when its not important or need......and race is somthing that cant be changed unlike some ones social standings (where some one can easily move up or down)..........

I think that's a fairly stilted argument, and you and I both know we could argue for three days on end and still not resolve a thing, so let's just agree that each side has some flaws and leave it at that...

It is not normal to be gay...meaning their biology isnt correct, that is why two men cannot concieve a child, its not normal by nature. And I know for a fact that there are gay doctors and gay construction workers, but I would bet my left nut that the arts have more gays in it, its almost undeniably a fact...and what does Taco Bell have anything to do with this?

It's a biological thing to be gay, you're born that way. Is it something you hope for? Probably not, but it is natural and not "messed up".

i saw this awhile ago, i think i dont know enough about how much violence there is in nyc to make up my mind about it... because i agree that its someting extremely hard to control and so if its at very high levels i guess this is a good idea, for those who wish to get away from it... although it does seem kind of stupid... what if people were beating up blue eyed people or soemthing and they were like "oh, ok lets make a school for blue eyed people"

I dont agree with the school for gay people personally but it seems that they really dont have a choice. Actually, this high school has been around for about 10 years i think it is. It just now that the New York taxpayers have to shell out $3.2 MIL to fund it and its 100 students. You make a good point though. They want the same rights, they want to be treated the same, but then they want special provledges from the government and taxpayers. Best of both worlds i guess.

Here's MY problem with this...
The government refuses to make taxpays suport catholic schools because it, understandably, goes against some peoples beliefs. I can accept that. But how is it right to now force the public to fund a homosexual school that obviously would step on some toes. The door should swing both ways. But here we see it again! Does anyone else see this?!?! Its ok to be gay. Its ok to be black. But once again our government is discriminating against the white heterosexual catholic male.

I have no problem with the school if they plan on doing the same for every other sub group. Gays arn't the only ones to get picked on. Should they start a Fat Kid High School for the fat kids that get picked on?

I totally see what you mean. And this will undoubtedly start an argument. But I think you're born black, you're born gay. Being catholic is a conscious choice. So I can see where it's coming from. Still, I agree that this school should be a private school, or else not be allowed to collect tax-dollars.

I agree. But i dont know. I know theirs proof about being "born gay" as some mental chemical imbalance (correct me if i'm wrong) but i'm not totally convinced. It seems to me that a vast majority of the gays i know of have had tragic things happen to them. For example molested as a young child or raped. You know? I might be totally off on this one but if you a 5 year old girl and your molested by a male, your going to subconciously hate men for the rest of your life rightfully so. I don't know...

Yes that may contribute. Personally, I have twin cousins who are females and grew up in a loving home. They are both gay now. That is why I believe that it is natural thing. But undoubtedly personal trauma may play a role in some cases as well.
