Well. Seeing as I've seen like, easily a couple dozen threads lately about kids not being educated enough to use apple's help site, I figure we should have an official help thread. SO. Here we go.

A: Check your MP3 files on your computer and make sure they're good files. Also be sure to check and make sure that you're connection through a hi-speed USB port. Sometimes on older computers, if you're not on a hi-speed port, your files can be damaged during the transfer resaulting in skipping.

Q: My iPod automatically syncronizes when I connect to iTunes! How do I stop it?
A: Make sure that when you're in the iPod settings window, the "Automatically Synchronize with iTunes playlists" is UNchecked.

Q: My offbrand charger doesn't work!
A: Bummer dude. Hook it up to your PC/Mac, and let it charge that way. Next time, buy a product made by your MP3 players company ;-)

Q: I can't add .zip or .rar files to iTunes!
A: Well of course you can't silly! There's files INSIDE that file you need to extract! try winzip (http://winzip.com)

A: Reset your iPod. Or ask SePaMc what the default settings are to click to language select.

Q: How do I get my iPod to play in my car?
A: Get a CD deck with Audio In (Auxilary inputs) and run cables into the back of it OR get an FM Transmitter

A: Shut down your computer, and try installing the update at a later time.

Q: There's new iPods with bigger storage! Can I update to get the same space?
A: No. You need to buy the new iPod. You cannot make a harddrive hold more.

A: Make sure there's a flush connection between the iPod and port.

Yea, it hasn't done so well. They are planning on some firmware updates to make the Zune capable of more things. It has the potential, but those fuckers need to get on the ball. I'm getting kinda discouraged by the 1st gen product seeming to get dropped. But like I said, they claim there will be some big updates this year.

that's the problem with companies that make something groundbreaking, they try to get it out to the public too fast and they dont make it a solid product right away, and you're stuck with countless updates. :-(

Yea, that's exactly what happened with the holiday season and all. I wasn't surprised that Microsoft made this move though. Release product with all the right hardware/parts and then try to fix it with updates. It's what they've done with Windows, Xbox, and now the Zune. Xbox being probably a good idea with what we will see with the Zune. They did alot more with that a bit after it's release.

if you have a cracked screen or a dead battery that the apple store can't fix:

if you have a sad ipod icon or a folder icon that they won't/can't fix, smack your ipod on your palm like a cigarrette pack. if you're feeling brave, open up the ipod with a knife or something. disconnect the plug from the hard drive (it's a blue plug) and plug it back into THE SAME HOLES. this, of course, will void your warranty if it's still covered. it's real easy to to though.

I posted this in general a couple days ago, but didn't get any responses:

This morning when I went to take my video iPod with me after having it plugged into my USB hub all night, I noticed that it was frozen on the "do not disconnect" screen. After restarting the iPod, it got stuck on the "Apple" screen, and even after plugging the iPod back into my computer, it was not recognized by either itunes or my Macbook. After browing help threads on the Apple message boards, I decided to leave my iPod sitting on my desk for the battery to run out.

About 10 minutes ago, I tried plugging my now-dead iPod into my computer, and after saying "very low batterry, please wait", it got stuck on the "apple" screen again. I have also tried plugging it into a power adapter, but with no luck. Now my iPod just alternates between the apple screen and the very low battery screen when plugged into my computer, and when it's plugged into the wall, it stays at the apple screen.

I know that I should try the 5 R's that they say help most iPod problems, but without my iPod being recognized by my computer, the only thing I can really try is restarting my iPod and my computer, neither of which has worked. Any thoughts?

uhh, considering iTunes doesn't have a "skins" interface built into it that i know of, as far as I know, you end up downloading modified files, which could be harmful to you're computer dude. but then again, i dont keep up on skins and shit. i just keep up on iPod problems/data and shit.

Only one ear of my headphones works whenever I plug in into my mp3 player. You have to press down hard where the headphones plug in to get both ears to work. sounds to me like your headphone jack is either dity, or not making a solid conenction.

i wouldn't suggest cleaning your headphone jack unless you know what you're doing. but if it's loose and can't make a solid connection, then you may need to send it in for repair.

that's a bummer man - it's something that can't really be fized other than sending it into apple from what I do know about that problem. I've had a few friends send theirs in, got em' back a week later.

I have a nano, and i had too many songs in my library than what the nano could hold. It created some sort of "selected playlist" of some of my songs in my library because it was full. I deleted some songs in my library to make room, and I also deleted the playlist that was automatically made. Now there is no music on my ipod, but my library is still intact.

When I try to update my iPod, this pops up:

"iPod could not be synched because all of the playlists selected for synching no longer exist"

my ipod mini can be charged all night, and then it has an hour playback, and whenever i turn it off and on again the power remains low but it still plays, and at that stage, if i charge it again it shuts off completely, usually for a few hours but it stayed off for a week once

and i also contacted apple and they suggested i shell out £80 for a new battery. no thanks.

possible solution from the Apple forums:


Try deleting the "iPod Photo Cache" folder(s) off your computer.

To do that:

1 - Go to "START > Search".

2 - Select "All files and folders", and make sure that you are searching over your entire hard drive.

3 - Then, type "ipod photo cache" in the blank, and click "Search" to begin searching.

4 - When the search is complete, delete any "iPod Photo Cache" folders that you may find on your computer.

NO you can still do it, just plug the ipod into our cvomputer, select the songs from the album, right click GET INFO, then add the album art where it goes.


Its just like adding the art to the songs on itunes
