Well, I finally finished recording this song and revising lyrics so that they could be sung. I hope people it check out. Thanks.

Here is a link to download the song if any of you are having trouble with myspace,
http://www.sendspace.com/file/5z9bt0. The quality isn't amazing but it allows for a faster download and less annoyance for those currently plagued with dial-up.

The Old Brazil (http://myspace.com/atroposmar) (<-click to be forwarded to myspace)

In a placebo state of mind,
Weaving fantasy next to a monochrome light...
Carbonated and jubilant
Our love is impregnable.

Am I right to feel strange,
Or strange to feel otherwise?
...Attached to a ghost's ideology
For I sing the electric clockwork.

We ride, we ride the wings of nirvana, alive!
With trust in romantics and thunderclouds.

I love you, Jill!

High and entwined in luscious blues, I fly;
Chrome armored and Calcium winged.
A women of feathers appears out of the neon...
I woke up in perspiration.

Happiness,
It is nothing more than a marionette
To the sub-conscious.
It is the dripping of duplicity from a mouth
As he sung Sinatra in perfect glee.
Now, follow me and I will lead you to fantasy;
A place where we can coexist,
And we won't have to fear the brass boot
Of politics,
Stamping on the human face.

We ride, we ride the wings of nirvana, alive!
With trust in romantics and thunderclouds.
So, as long as I can dream it
Why can't it be happiness?
Our lobotimized brains
Our coxial viens
No, love is a shell they couldn't break!
And it turns my head upside down,
Disposes of the rust and ruined metal
Like a sift and sand.
Skeletons dropped like liberated anchors;
Like a sift and sand.
Now, you cannot hurt me,
I'm.............
................the......
...transparent......... man.

Thanks for checking it out and adding me! I have little to none friends compared to others on myspace. I just realized I forgot to record "I'm the transparent man"...oh well. Any suggestions for the song?

Anyways, I checked out your band, Connery. It is not exactly my style, but I liked it for the most part. The last songs pretty catchy. I think like my songs they are damaged by the quality of the recordings. Perhaps, turn down the level of the vocals because at times they greatly overwhelm the song and the music is just there to be there (The same could probably be said about me too, but I'm not very serious about my music).

erm... connery??? i'm in two bands, neither of which are called connery. lol. neither of which have anything recorded. so i'm slighty confused now. yeah i thought that line was missing but i didn't say anything in case i wasnt listening carefully enough.

to be honest, some of the vocals are off. sorry. some of them are really good though, like that bit i mentioned earlier. i take it you used the RSE on guitar pro for the drums? personally i prefer to use midi, it sounds tons better on my pc than the rse. rse drums are awful.

lol.. wow, I'm confused too. Connery is the only band that has added me recently so I just assumed it was your band. Sorry... I feel somewhat bad now. Well, whenever you post one of your songs I'll be glad to listen.

Vocals have never been my thing, and that is probably evident in the recordings. When you say the vocals are off do you mean pitch wise or they just don't flow well with the music?

Yes, the drums are done using RSE on guitar pro. I like some sounds from it and then I like sounds from the midi, but I was too indolent to do anything about it. Once again, sorry for the confusion lol.

Good job. I think this revision is alot better than the original. I'll try to listen to the song on your MySpace, but iI've got dial-up internet, so I might have to wait a while until I'm at a friends house or something haha. But I'll go add you on there anyway haha.

no worries. i added you on my personal account. might be recording with both bands soon-ish, over easter maybe. i'll let you know.

yeah pitch wise they arent great but the melodies and ideas themselves work really well. don't worry about it though, you can only improve. you have good ideas at least so its worth working on. i'm not a great singer, lol. it does sound a bit shaky and what not on some bits. as i said before that bit i liked is perfect though, no problems with that at all pitch wise or anything like that.

i really like the way it kinda changes mood/style a few times.

i hate RSE, lol. well the guitars sound better than midi most of the time, and the bass can do, but the drums just sound like someone playing in a bathroom. lol

Hey, lew_1987, what's your (personal) myspace url? I've got a page, and it'd be pretty cool to add you man haha

And it's cool you guys use GutiarPro 5 too. I thought I was the only one haha. And I agree, I hate RSE haha. I use it now and then, if I'm writing an all-acoustic song, or heavy song (ala Converge) but yes, the drums do sound like they're being played in a tin can or something haha

Thanks for reading, adding me, and making an effort to listen to the song. I read somewhere (I think) that you were soon going to post some music...if so when?

I still haven't received your friendship...Anyways, excellent in regards to recording. I wish I was in a band, but too timid to perform so I just write for the fun of it. Sometimes I just don't see the point of it, but then there are those who enjoy the music and remind me why I do.

Thanks! I was just wondering if you mean't the melodies don't work. The problem with the pitches is that I only record when there is no one at home, which virtually is never. So, I wrote the melodies and recorded them within an hour so everything is pretty much done in one take. I got my girlfriend to sing the other parts because it doesn't bother her to sing and created dynamics not only vocally, but conceptually too. The mood changes is just how I write because dislike repetition.

If I changed the drums to midi do you think it would make for a better listen?

i don't know whats up with the myspace. mine is a bit wierd, sometimes i wont get any requests for days, then i'll get 5/6 in one day. so look out for me. if i dont get accepted in a few days i'll try again. i write on my own, i like having full control of my writing. i'll just keep writing until i find people who share the same vision as me. i do write in the two bands, but theyre quite different to the stuff i write on my own.

you should try and form a band, this stuff would be really good with the right people!

it might sound better, it depends on your sound card. mine has a decent midi sound, but laptops and stuff are a load of shit. i had a really old pc before this one and the midi sound on the drums was AMAZING, probably because midi was more important then, i dunno.

ps. i have some recordings, i wanna finalise lyrics so i can upload them ;) no vocals on them though. watch this space...

Sure thing, man. As far as my recordings go, it may be a while, but they will definatley be up sometime. I'm going to most likely wait until I get a good recording program installed on my computer and then re-record all the stuff I have done. Then I'll just set up an artist account on MySpace and upload my stuff. But it is kind of in the air right now, I might actually just post my crappy tape-recorded-then-transferred-to-computer files haha

I finally received your friendship invite...I Drink Gravy. Somewhat of a strange name to have lol. How is the UK this time of year? Canada is unpredictable with weather that is somedays warm enough for t-shirts while others are so cold that you can't even leave the house.

i usually just have my name as 'lew' but i had bangers and mash (sausages, mashed potato and brown gravy, popular dish over here) for tea the other night, and i drank the leftover gravy before eating the meal. don't ask me why i'm proud of that, maybe because i love gravy? haha, anyway... yeah the UK isnt too bad at the moment, today was really sunny, its getting brighter but its still not t shirt weather. i like canada, my mums cousin lives there so i went to visit a couple of years ago.

The title is a direct liftoff from the song Brazil by Frank Sinatra. Terry Gilliam's Brazil was a reference to the song as the protagonist sings the tune as the movie closes...these lyrics were based off the movie. Anyways, I hope that helped. Thanks for enjoying and for the compliment.

PS - Did you get around to listening to the song?
