Yeah, i've been trying to go back to a somewhat straightedge lifestyle, and its... meh. I'm proud of my self though, i haven't smoked anything since october, and i haven't been drunk since the summer-ish. Plus i signed a paper for sports that says i won't do drugs/alcohol during the season.

The thrash aspect only really came into play with the main portion of the genre in recent times. There is plenty without it, Portraits of Past (On their LP), Saetia, Rites of Spring, Moss Icon, etc. Sed non Satiata and similar continue the non thrashy style of screamo, while Life at these Speeds continue the non thrasy emo stuff.

edit: Moss Icon is the last of the early emo bands, and also the best.

After listening to enough of Moss Icon and the bands like it, you'd probably find the thrashy stuff more tolerable, but they are hugely inaccessible due to how hard it is to understand anything they say, until you've heard a lot of it or music similar to it. A bit surprised you don't like CTTS tho, easily most accessible recent screamo band.(If you used their myspace, the first 2 minutes of Kill the Switch aren't a good introduction to them)
