Elderly Man Sued for Stopping at Stop Sign
July 9, 2003 - Atlanta, USA
In a case possibly first of its kind, 67 year old Arthur Thompson is being sued by 32 year old Lynn Manaouski for stopping at a 4-way stop sign. In her statement she described how she came up to the intersection leading into her downtown condo, and rear ended the driver in front of her due to his 'complete and full stop'. She continues to say that of the almost 2 years of living in that particular condominium complex, she had not once been behind someone who had made a full stop at the stop sign, and that his inability to be 'consistent with typical driving patterns' caused the accident. As a result, she is convinced that Mr. Thompson is directly responsible for the accident and should be held accountable for all incurred costs of repair to both vehicles. When reminded that it is the law to make a complete stop at a stop sign, her abrupt response was "I am quite capable of deciding when it is a good or bad time to stop my vehicle."

Not to be sexist, but women arent great drivers, nor are old people, but again, thats a stereotype.

A bad driver to me is the person who cannot turn left on red…ever. The person who goes 45 mph in a 65 zone… in the left lane. The person who brakes down to 15 mph to make a turn that can hold 45mph. These are the bad drivers, these are the biggest threats I believe. Probably a leading cause of road rage, not to mention many accidents, these are the bad drivers that cause everyone else to scream at them and honk horns and get very agitated. Although not the leading accident causers, in my book the worst drivers. I am not what you call a nascar fan, I have probably watched 30 seconds total in my entire life, mainly crashes I see on Sports Center's Top 10 plays. These guys crash all the time and drive at high speeds, much like teenage guys I guess you could say, but these guys are the best drivers in the world….explain that.

Teenage boys arent necessarily bad drivers as much as they are retarded drivers. They, for the most part, can do it, they just act like assholes and do stupid things. That's not a bad driver in my eyes.

driving is a privialge not a right, there should be better testing and required check ups to see if you know what the fuck you are doing...

I heard on the news a week or so back that NYS was planning on making it a law to check on elderly drivers with a re-testing program. Even some elderly people were interviewed all for it.

thats a good idea, but they should retest everyone, i've seen more middle age people who think they can drive like assholes simply because they've had their license for X number of years. its ridiculous.

im not trying to "make a point", you just said something along the lines of "its actually males in your age frame who are the worst drivers..........", which i took to believe meant you didnt fall in that category...i guess i misunderstood you, and you are right...statistically women arent horrible drivers, but statistically Pete Rose should have been in the Hall of Fame years ago, stats dont always read true...

pete rose is an exception because he personally chose to break baseball rules and federal laws........so statistically it doesn't matter (but on a personal know he will be in the hall of fame some day, hes got to big of a fan base not too)...........

.........also insurance statistics don't ly, if they found woman drivers to be as bad as you think they are......they would raise there rates...............

it is possible to be a horrible driver and not get into accidents, so in that regard the statistic do lie. they only account for those drivers that are in accidents or get tickets, and i've seen a million drivers on the road that are terrible and they don't get in an accident, although they usually cause them, and that don't get tickets because the police don't see what they're doing.

Also, being a teenage guy is worse than being black...you know how they claim they always get pulled over and whatnot. Teenage guys get it the worst, cops will 99.9% of the time give a ticket to any teenage guy...I even had a neighbor who was a city cop, and he said they give teenagers tickets always just to "scare them straight", even for small infractions such as rolling stops. Yet I have been in the car with my mom plenty of times when she has been pulled over for doing 20 over, got off on a warning...

it just kills you that womon might actually be better drivers then men, why does that bother you so much?.........and insurance statistics are a far better veiw of what woman drivers are like, then your opinionated viewings.............

i think you've got the wrong person, i was joking when i originally posted about women drivers being bad, and then i've pretty much left the topic alone. what i was saying in my last post was meant more for middle age people in general, men and women, who statistically may be better drivers than the young or the old, but in reality are just as bad if not worse, yet because they aren't in an accident or get a ticket, they don't appear in your statistics.
