I know, right? Like I said other places, I'm glad the Supreme Court protects free speech in all its forms, but I really wish there was a legal loophole that could take those fuckers down.

I wonder if Alito's vote was because he just doesn't like WBC or could care less about protecting free speech.

If it's the former, what a noble asshole. If it's the latter, what an asshole.

Saw this news on CNN this morning. Really not happy about it, but they have the legitimate right to protest in any public forum. I didn't realize funerals were regarded as public forum, but I guess they are? I don't know anymore...

Me too. I really wish all the irrelevant shit that people blamed for the Tuscon shooting actually worked. Then I could just make a fucking target map with their names on it and have crazies lining up to take 'em out.

Not sure why the holding in this case could not have been made extremely narrow. The IIED verdict being vacated sucks for the family, really could have done some damage to these assholes and provided the family with some sense of justice.

These people preach nothing but a wrathful, angry God and promote nothing but hatred. Also, they receive nothing but a status of social pariahs. I don't understand what keeps these people going.
I refuse to acknowledge the existence of such a narrow-minded deity, and would certainly not devote my life to worship such a terrible entity.

In the wake of their Supreme Court victory, the WBC is going to celebrate by quadrupling their funeral protests (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/02/westboro-baptist-church-supreme-court_n_830484.html).

Margie Phelps:

"Let me tell you what this church does: Shut up all that talk about infliction of emotional distress. When you're standing there with your young child's body bits and pieces in a coffin, you've been dealt some emotional distress by the Lord your God... I very much appreciate the fact that I get to be the mouth of God in this matter."

The Supreme Court is not technically supporting the Church's actions but ruled in favor of their Constitutional right to free speech. It's a double-edged sword and the Church has figured out how to exploit it.

they protested a marine from near my home town, but they got pushed a mile or so away cause of all of the counter protestors. i wanted to go, but ironically i was doing recruiters assistance/we aren't supposed to go to protest type deals. are you studying for a commission or something?

American policy is literally on a case by case basis. When our country was born all men were created equal. But since then we've had laws stating that blacks and women are equal.

And our society doesn't understand law anyway. Evident by the fact that States are making it illegal to be an illegal citizen. Like how much more stupid can we get?
