Jason Tate

Fall Out Boy (http://www.absolutepunk.net/falloutboy) will be running a series of contests (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1554403/20070312/fall_out_boy.jhtml) promoting their upcoming tour. One of these contests will include the band "mix[ing] their own blood with the printing ink that will be used on a series of promotional posters."

So you're saying that these will be the first posters in world history infected with AIDS and Syphillis?

He wrote that the drawing of their own blood would serve to "[shed] some light on the much-needed support for blood drives."

Shouldn't the blood be donated then instead of used on posters?

I do commend them for raising blood donor awareness.

Shouldn't they donate the blood then? I mean I love fob, but some of these stunts are just over the top. It seems like there are much better ways to promote blood donations.

This comes from Pete's tour journal on the FOB site.

"Also, were going to be running a series of contests. One is an ode to KISS. My brother is ging to make 45 prints based on images from our record. Each will be hand numbered and individually made. In addition, all prints will have a mixture of each member of the bands blood in it. Maybe this will even shed some light on the much needed support for blood drives. We will be giving away a print on stage every night."

I'm sure it's like one drop of blood. Big deal!!

I just don't see why people are freaking out ... it's a tribute to KISS and to raise awareness for Blood Drives; I'm not getting why this is becoming an "OMG ef those guys" moment.

hmm, this is slightly odd, it strikes me a little bit to much of a publicity stunt, but fair play for raising awarness for blood drives I just think there are better ways to do it, free entry to a gig or meet and greet for everyone that gives blood would seem like a better way to do it.

Good attitude - this is basically what i thought, too. It's hilarious, and kind of campy, like anything that references KISS. I sort of hope they videotape themselves drawing the blood, actually - that could be played up for maximum humor and would be another way to get kids psyched before the next tour.

Free entry for giving blood sounds great except that a lot of their fans are under 18. Therefore, they can't give blood. You also have to weigh at least 120 lbs.

On second thought, that might be a good way to get rid of a lot of teenies that go to their shows.

...you can give blood of you're under 18. 16 with parental consent. And 110 lbs. At least in Oregon.

If Fall Out Boy were going to raise awareness about something, couldn't it be 3rd-world debt, or spousal abuse, or something definitely helpful??? I can just see 26-year olds laying in hospital beds 10 years from now saying "Screw FOB, I got Hep C from a transfusion..."

And don't give me any "This isn't 1987" BS, I work in a lab, and transfusions are FAR from safe. VERY FAR. Why anyone would want to promote a practice that medical progress is leaving far in the dust is beyond me.

at least their trying.
