Here are the (http://www.absolutepunk.net/calendar.php?do=getall&day=07-03-13&c=3) albums in stores today, what did you pick up and what do you think? I want to take a moment and ask that fans of Sherwood (http://www.absolutepunk.net/sherwood) go out and pick up their album this week -- first week numbers are really important (and yes, the better the band does the better AP.net looks).

I'd also recommend that fans of The Lawrence Arms go pick up Sundowner... it's Chris from TLA's side project.

Hopefully, the Best Buy or Target around this town in Texas has Sherwood, cause I def want it. That and Casino Royale on DVD!

So I just checked the Best Buy store availability for Sherwood, and it's not going to be in stock anywhere near me. I thought that signing to Myspace Records was going to help distribute them more? Fuck.

I'm hoping my Best Buy has it. Dang...I got like 2 Best Buy's, Target, Walmart, Circuit City, and some other places around me. If none of them have it, I'll be pissed.

The target here didnt have it and I got the one and only copy from Best Buy. I was expecting this to be easy to find. Great CD, but it bugs me when bands dont put lyrics in the book.

I'll eventually buy the Sherwood album I imagine. I dunno, I listened to half of the record on their MySpace page, and even though it was good, it just seemed that I would get tired of it pretty quick.

-I assume the Geeks album is worth picking up if that's your bag.
-Daggermouth's album is decent. I'd buy that if you consider Set Your Goals one of your top 5 all-time favorite bands.
-Anyone else think the Sherwood album is incredibly mediocre?
-Sundowner's album is worth a purchase. Probably one of the only solo efforts that'll get much play from me this year.
-Permanent's album is pretty solid if you like raspy modern hardcore with some fairly creative touches.

i picked it up. its ok, but def. not as good as the full length. nothing will ever beat that. the mood on that album is awesome. on the new album a few songs are awesome (1,2,3,8) and some arent that outstanding. one song reminded me of a used song

Got Sherwood at Best Buy, however they only had one copy. And also online it said there were none available. So even if it says that online...you might still wanna check. Either way, I don't think the distro for this album is as big as we had hoped.

Sherwood wasnt on the shelf at BEst Buy. When I asked about it, the guy was like "Yea I didnt put it out because it didnt have a price sticker on it. This is the only copy we have"

It was 11.99.

and the no lyrics in the booklet annoys me, but it is an enjoyable album nonetheless

I somewhat agree with that. They do have them on a pretty big tour right now though, and have done a fair amount of promotion. Maybe the slow start is part of some bigger marketing plan that we are unaware of.

I picked up the CD at Best Buy today for $11.99. There were 2 or 3 other copies there along with it. Artwork is lovely.... and I found my name in the Thank You's. I felt loved for a moment.

I wouldn't call a huge 2 month nationwide tour with Relient K and constant promotion on the #1 website in America "very little" but that's just me.

I think they did a fair job of promoting the album, but the distrobution doesn't appear to be very big. I mean...I got the only copy at Best Buy and I know I wasn't the only one who got the only copy. Wal Mart appears not to carry it, as well as Target. Better distro and I think this album would have sold a lot more. But I guess we will have to wait until next week to see the numbers.

Im about 95% positive that myspace had nothing to do with them getting on that tour, and if they didnt promote them on their own website they would just look like douche bags. you can promote the record all you want but if its not in stores where kids in middle america can purchase it the numbers wont come in

You're saying that they would have gotten on the Relient K/Mae tour as an unsigned band? I just want to make sure that's clear.

i didnt say anything about them getting that tour if they were an unsigned band, but i believe that relient k and sherwood are pals, like i said im not 100% i just dont think myspace had much to do with them getting that tour, im sure they will pay for promotion towards the tour but i think if they were still on sidecho they could have gotten on that tour, myspace records is a joke, sign to myspace records if you want more friends and pics not if you want a properly distributed record.

MySpace Records: Distribution is contracted to Universal Music Group's Fontana Distribution, with manufacturing and external marketing by Universal's Interscope Records.

MySpace Records operates as an independent label located in Santa Monica, California. The President is MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson and the A&R head is Jon Pikus, former A&R representative of Columbia Records, operating from Beverly Hills. The General Manager is J Scavo, who was recently the Executive Director, Marketing & Artist Development at Hollywood Records, a subsidiary of Disney.

If you think that MySpace Records is a joke, you need to realize that it's 2007. MySpace is the biggest social network in the world right now...rediculous or not. The distribution is handled by a major label. As one of the first few bands to sign to MySpace, Sherwood has the opportunity to make more decisions than a lot of bands. MySpace Records was an awesome move for a band who works hard for their own success.

Myspace could have promoted them more I think on their website, I mean all they did today was send out messages right? Why not any banners or being the featured band on the site today?

And yeah, good job on the tour, that is good. But the distribution of the album is what makes me most confused. I went to a Circuit City, Sam Goody, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy and found only 2 Sherwood CDs in stock. That's not good.

Drew Beringer

For the record, I don't think Myspace Records is a joke, I think it will be huge, I just wish they would have done more for Sherwood. Getting on a major tour is really good, but that's all really. They could do more. It's not like they have many other bands to support.

They were on the front page of Myspace the past 2 days.

And it must be your city. I know somebody who bought the CD at Best Buy, there were copies at an indie store in my area.

you guys have no idea how distro works. record store general managers decide how many of each copy to buy into their store. and outside of this website, this band is a complete unknown. no radio. no mtv/fuse. it doesn't make send to carrry 20 sherwood cd's because their previous retail effort only sold under 15k... as the record sells, store will re order...this is the same thing that happened with panic.

I'm sure that this cd only shipped 10k first week...so devide that among the thousand record store around the country and you'll have you answer
