To everyone that has been into music for a long time and was here on ap.net since it started chances are you loved matchbook romance, I haven't posted on this board in 2 years, but I came here to share this news with everybody:

3-12-07
Dear fans and friends,

Today is a sad day. Because it is on this day that we, the members of Matchbook Romance, have decided to part ways and go on an indefinite hiatus. This was not at an easy decision for us to come to, as it seems it's taken months for the words to even form on the tips of our tongues. Its a decision that we thought we would never have to make, but unfortunately, after 5 years its a decision that best suits our situations.

We're going to miss all of our adoring fans, and friends that we've made on this adventure. We thank all of you for letting this thing we started into your hearts and for holding us in such high regard. We love all of your stories of traveling across the country just to see us play one show, and we love all the amazing gifts you guys have handcrafted for us personally. You will not be forgotten, and hopefully the music of Matchbook Romance won't be either.

So yes, today is a sad day, but it is also a good one. This is our chance to leave on a good note and forge ahead in the world to see what else is out there. We hope you guys will understand, and we hope you will look forward to the next time you hear from us.

Here's to the good times,

Matchbook Romance

MY EYES BURN

FROM THESE TEARS

YOU'D THINK I'D LEARN OVER THESE YEARS

GOOOOOOOOOOOD THIIIIIIINGS WOOOOOOOOOON'T

LAST FOREVER!

SO WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO

YOU ONLY WANTED THE THINGS I COULDN'T GIVE TO YOU

AND YOU HAD 'EM ALL ANYWAY!

SO TAKE TAKE EVERYTHING

AND LEAVE ME SCRAMBLING

REACHING FOR SOMETHING THAT WASN'T THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!

hahahahaha wow. that song never fails to make me feel better about myself as a musician.

i remember hearing this album and saying "WTF? this is on epitaph?"

now its fairly constant. I applaud Mr Brett or the variety, b ut some of these bands belong on Victory, not epitaph.

i know exactly what you mean. i've been very very disappointed with most everything Epitaph's put out since Refused broke up. Motion City Soundtrack and a couple others being the few exceptions. all their other bands just kinda, run together for me.

yea.... i knew about this like a month ago.
whatever their last cd was not amazing by anymeans
but i did like their other cd

i guess if we line up the "New" epitaph, id list MCS, The Matches and maybe I Am Ghost, but thats a personal guilty pleasure, as is Escape the Fate.

i can't really get into I Am Ghost or Escape The Fate.

they seem to be good for what they are, just not my cup of tea. same goes for the matches. i don't know. i guess i expected more from Epitaph haha they're still one of the labels i respect moth though

i respect them more then Victory, thats for sure.

Escape the Fate is derivative, youre not missing anything.

I Am Ghost is one of those "right time, right place" bands whose subject matters appeals to me.

The Matches ive followed for 4 years now, and I respect them as musicians.

Very true. I like Epitaph's variety, as you said, but I wish they'd stuck to punk rock. I mean, just look at the Punk-O-Rama comp. series. It's not even around anymore...it's called Unsound or something...but it started out as a really, really great series, but then they started adding bands like From First to Last and Matchbook Romance on there. But to be fair, I did like MR's last album. I thought it was decent enough, but nowhere near as good as everybody made it out to be/said it was...

haha i respect just about any label more than Victory. Spitalfield's just about the only band i still like on that label. them and the Forecast.

and ya, i understand about I Am Ghost. Escape The Fate i figured were like that. and i've considered giving the Matches a shot every now and then. the only song i've really heard from them is the one that was on that Smartpunk compilation a couple years ago.

their two albums are like night and day. go download "Papercut Skin" "Clumsy heart" "Didi" "Salty Eyes" and "Drive"

those songs are the ones off decomposer than i love.

As far as Victory Records goes, I'd agree. Those bands and then the Tossers. I like them alot, in addition to Spitalfield and the Forecast.

And the Matches are pretty cool. I have their album "E. Von Dahl Killed the Locals" and it's good. Not stellar, but good nevertheless. I haven't heard much off of their latest album yet...

im going to see the tossers on saturday. i need to dig out their last album and give it a listen

e von dahl is ok

decomposer is better by far, and a radical departure. it shows that they are as creative as anybody.

when did this happen?

oh well, i think the "emo" movement or whatever classification you can put them and all the other bands that came out at the same time with the same sound is pretty much starting to die out.

While i listend to all these bands when i was younger...I'm not sad to see it go.

Awesome, I could imagine the Tossers being one wild live show. I love Irish music, everything from the old stuff like the Dubliners to bands like Flogging Molly, and of course, the Tossers. I've got some pretty high hopes for their new album, Agony.

yeah, I agree, E Von Dahl was okay, a few really cool songs, but overall I felt it was pretty lacking. And yeah, I have one song off of Decomposer that I got off the Warped comp., and its pretty cool. Ill have to check the rest of the album out sometime.

i love matchbook. this sucks alot on top of ten breaking up. They were one of the first bands playing this type of music(whatever you call it, most people here would call it "shit") that i really got into and they'll always be one of my faves. I know most people on this board hate them but their newest album is a masterpiece if you give it a thorough listen. At least i got to see them live on take action last year.

i went to the epitaph tour.

Escape the Fate was sick. i had never listened to them before but i lovvveeeeddd them

I am Ghost was a bore. The crowd didnt like them. They got barely any praise. The singer was getting pissed. he is way to theatrical.... like fake glam ya know? the girl rocks tho.

The Matches.... eh they are fine. I didnt pay much attention to them. I was flyering during most of their set.

The Higher.... i LOVE. i was totally impressed. they are some nice guys. especially seth. very friendly with the fans. and fun on stage.

Yeah, i think there are only a handful of good bands left on Epitaph. Bouncing Souls, The Weakerthans, Bad Religion, Motion City Soundtrack, The Draft, Millencolin, Heavens, and other older staples that are still on the label, that i don't nescessarily listen to that much anymore, but that i still like, and respect, like Pennywise. Hellcat and Anti are still pretty good overall for me though, but that doesn't really count as Epitaph as such. Epitaph have really gone very much downhill over the last few years for me.

I agree, though I still love Epitaph, and many of it's sub-labels, or whatever you want to call them. I'd say the best two are without a doubt Fat Wreck Chords (Lawrence Arms, NOFX, Smoke Or Fire, Loved Ones, Lagwagon, other great bands, etc) and Anti- (Tom Waits, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Jolie Holland, Elliot Smith, Greg Graffin, etc) Overall, though I still like Epitaph. But I am pretty disappointed in some of the bands they've signed. I don't really hate MR, I can stand them. They seem like decent enough dudes, even if their music isn't that great.

You shouldn't call someone an idiot when you can't even spell "devestating".

And for the record, this break-up, at no point in time, would have been devestating. They released one enjoyable record way back when and followed it up terribly with Voices. It takes a lot more than Stories and Alibis to break my heart when it comes to a band calling it quits.

bump

has anyone heard anything about andrew doing some new music solo or band, after they broke up i thought he said he was going to make some new music, i went on his myspace and there really nothing

why this bump? Matchbook Romance only had one good album, Stories and Alibis, their second CD was terrible, I'm guessing the solo stuff will probably go in that direction
