View Full Version : Viacom Suing Youtube

Viacom, parent company of cable networks MTV, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central is suing YouTube and parent company Google for $1 billion in damages over "massive intentional copyright infringement," as well as an injunction preventing Google and YouTube from further copyright infringements. Viacom claims nearly 160,000 unauthorized clips of programming have appeared on YouTube and been viewed more than 1.5 billion times, and is dissatisfied with Google's removal of content because YouTube users can quickly re-post illegal copies of content. Google was notified a month ago to remove all of Viacom's content from the video site (100,000 videos at the time), and now Viacom wants YouTube to filter all of its content out automatically.

If this is a problem, then put Rocko's Modern Life on DVD and I won't watch it on Youtube along with the other Nick shows.

Jesus, can we not think of a different way of solving things other than suing.

This kind of copyright infringement will always exist.

I agree they aren't the only site, I like watching rape the web for tv shows like the simspons. Viacom needs to grow up and realize that things like this only make their fans hate them more.

Rocko's Modern Life is on TV in my area on a daily basis around 2am on "Nick Tunes Network". It isn't with regular cable packages, but if you have MTV2, FUSE, Nick GAS, Game Show Network, etc., then you should have nick toons network.

there was no way to stop this from happening. sure there are a lot of other sites infringing on copyrights right now, but how many of those sites are owned by a MultiBillion corporation such as Google? it's all about money and who has it. Stupidest move of last year was to buy YouTube.

that would be a major failure considering wikipedia is peer reviewed and you never know what information is on it. that, and any lawsuit would be huge.

This is ridiculous. Basically everything worth watching now is now taken down. Even videos of bands playing on TV have been taken down although that's not the work of Viacom.

Total truth.

MTV's site is horrific to navigate and really won't run well or at all on a lot of older computers.

I don't see how they think this will stop anything. What it'll do is create other sites of video uploading rather than just Youtube.

Well if they'd offer ways to see full episodes of shows without me having to make my schedule fit around theirs, I wouldn't go to illegal places for content. OFFER FULL SHOWS ON DEMAND, PEOPLE, OR STOP BITCHING when people download or upload stuff illegally. *crankyface*

in similar thinking....i dont see how recording shows off TV (to VHS like in the old days) and downloading shows online and burning them to DVDs is any different.
