View Full Version : Thiefing a Stop Sign: My Curious Obsession

For the longest time I've had my eye on this stop sign at the end of my street that's been relentlessly begging at my inner-kleptomaniatic self. But I've never brought myself to actually get up and steal the damn thing. Though I am curious: how do you get it off the pole? Does it only require some kind of wrench? So to all you thief'ers out there, please divulge your sign pilfering techniques. Or just tell me your story.

i ripped it off. but anyway ya it takes a wrench of some sort just walk down to the end of your road take a good look at the back. find the same size. and then take it off in the middle of the night. hang low with the stop sign for a few weeks then proudly hang it where ever you want.
i duno, but isnt ahving a stop sign appear in ur room kinda obvious to ur parents? unles u dont live with them which then i bet u can just take a hammer to it in the middle of the night. But its bolted on right? so some other tool u know actually i dont know. :(
But i love stealing stuff, even its just to give it back to my friends. I especially love stealing stuff when its hard, like in peoples pockets or stuff like that. I want to learn to pick alock.

ya picking a lock. thats alot harder than you think. people in the movies make it look so easy.
well i found a site on it. Basic locks dont look that hard, but im sure nowawdays its a lot tougher.

ya go try to pick your frontdoor. its good practice and if you have the key there is nothing to worry about.

i would really advise you not to steal a stop sign....
if someone gets in a crash like the next morning because it's gone, and it's anything serious, the cops have probable cause to search any house nearby... and i'm guessing your one of the only kids on your street, so there is high likelyhood that they would search your place.... not only is it a felony to steal the sign, but they would rip you a new asshole if anyone got hurt because of what you did.
but on the other hand, having every type of street sign hanging proudly in your room is a very cool thing. my room was like that for about a year. in fact, if anyone wants to pay me the shipping, I will send you ever single street sign that existed in santa barbara (including the ever popular slippery when wet sign)

I thought about that, but I figured the stop sign at the end of my road is pretty useless. No one even stops for it anyways, so I think I'm safe on that one. But by the way, how many signs do you have in your collection? I love the look of road signs as decoration and could use a few for myself.

I have one of those five foot tall signs from near the boarder with mexico. it has a family running like they are crossing the freeway.... anyone who has been there will know what they look like... we took a chainsaw and cut through the 4x4 that was holding the thing up and threw it in a truck in under 30 seconds on the side of the freeway.
and no i don't leave my doors unlocked. too many people want to kill me.

i want a stop sign, a slow children sign, and DEFINITELY the slippery when wet sign that Neph has.
EDIT: Of course, my dad works for the Village of Lewiston and has a large collection of old street signs in his garage at work. So I could always take the easy road and get them from there. :p
i stole a bunch of cool posters from this old middle school. they're like those old school 90s style with a bunch of black kids saying WE HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO THAN DRUGS

You would get in a shit load of trouble if someone got hurt. But if you say its not a bad intersection, it should be ok. I would personally want the cow crossing or tractor sign.

some kids locally got slapped with either murder or man slaughter, for taking down a stop sign, becuase someone was killed because they didnt stop

a couple years ago, someone in my town was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for stealing a stop sign. Id say its a bad idea. get less important signs, like a Yield sign or a Dead End one or something.

i almost died once because someone ignored a yield sign, so that one must be kinda important too

oooh. what site? but also be careful about picking locks -sighes- in 8th grade we were all forced to come on a saturday and do a play, so of course me, a friend, and 2 lock picking friends go around the school and try to pick locks. luckily we didnt get into any rooms when they found us, and since we were young they decided not to us to the police but we got in a shitload of trouble, be careful where you picklock too...

ya it happened in my city (i wasnt the guy who did it) i took one off one off this really old street no one goes on and it tells you to stop so you dont go into the park with your car. what a dumbass reason to put up a stop sign.
