Is there one band out there for you that after you listen to them you just feel the need to write a song ? Whether its to get feelings you have out or whatever.

For me it would be The Ataris. after i listen to So Long, Astoria, i dont know what it is, but i just think about everything thats going on in my life and feel I need to write a song to get out my feelings im having or whatever at that point. Hard to explain, but which band does this for you ?

It depends.....Like Blaarg said, the mood Im in....

Most of the time Its Collective Soul....OR Third Eye Blind...

I write alot of music, but I can never make an arrangement, so it ends up a poem in the end....

wow, thats impressive. i really respect authors because thats a lot of work writing an entire book, or whatever.

when it comes to songs i write, instead of compositions, i refer to them as decompositions, from the root word decompose. because they suck.

Thank You for that...

Dont say that! Every persons work will be perceived in a different light...Its individual and it's yours...That makes it beautiful....

I'd love to hear something...If you dont feel comfortable posting...PM me...

Just listen to Oberst and Kasher. That is all the writing inspiration you'll ever need.

Can't add too much to that one. Everytime I listen to the intro for Man and Wife, the former, I always get the urge to write. I don't know why that is but always. I also usually think of good stuff while I'm driving places. Which is good except it's hard to write it qown as you drive...

yeah, i always get inspired when i walk through busy cities. i think it's having so many people, and all the diversity, around me that gets me going. it's a bit annoying though because i never carry a pen on me and i end up having to walk into stores and asking to borrow a pen. then, of course, everyone has to stop and stare when the girl in the dark eyeliner and studded belt starts writing on her arm. you'd be surprised how many old women shake their heads at me simply because i own this piece of shit poser belt. jesus....do people not understand that you can't force nor delay inspiration? if i think of something, i have to write it down right then or i lose it and something sounds off.

Yeah, the Ataris inspire me to write a lot!! I could probably identify with the Ataris songs more than any other band. I've listened to Brand New a couple times while writing a song. I might join my friends harder kinda band after this shit that I'm going through with my current band so I listened to some My Chemical Romance, AFI, A Static Lullaby, and stuff like that to get inspired...yeah....

After getting Bill to send me the new STD album, I am thoroughly dissapointed. I was really looking forward to this, but it was really not up to par at all. It wasn't awful, but definitely no where near what they're capable of and should be putting out.

I used to look at my stuff critically, and I think it sucks, but then I realized...if it helped me express my feelings or get something off of my chest, then it's good in some way. I wrote a lot of it back in like 10th grade, and maybe only two songs, mostly poems...I don't remember who inspired me, it was probably Carabba...i used to listen to him a lot back then...if anyone wants to see my stuff just PM me..it's a bit too personal to be posting all over the boards...I will post something I made though...it's not written, but it's something artistic

A bit of an explination

white - "good" words, white represents purity
green - "bad" words, green represents evil, envy, and greed
red - for some reason, when i made it, blood represented life
grey - death is dark, gloomy, and disheartening
gold - music is the one constant in my life, or "golden standard", if you will

ME TOO!

OMG I LOVE YOU!!!

And I agree with the thread starter. Every time i write, I MUST listen to the ataris. I tried it with other bands but it doesn't work as well. Astoria has some deep magic in it i guess.

I've written a book, and I'm working on another, but DAMN over 800 pages? Mine was like 50 typed. I also have no time whatsoever. Work takes over my life, and once school's in it becomes a bitch.

When I read the question, the Ataris popped to my mind. This is weird. Yeah, I have trouble getting my inspiration, but sometimes the lyrics just flow. Another good band, SoCo's slower piano-y songs. I know its a cover, but in the boys of summer the line "I can feel it in the air, the summer's out of reach" really gets me a lot...Yay for writers!
