I would be lieing if I said I didn't get small impressions of just that. It made me laugh.
But this isn't anything they haven't done before. People forget that The Used started the trend now that they're coming back at the tail end of it. They've gotten themselves into an interesting position for potential comparisons to bands they actually helped inspire.
BTW there are downloads of this available at The Used's livejournal comm:
theused.livejournal.com
As for me, I LOVE it. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
okay why the fuck would they head in the direction of FROM FIRST TO LAST of all BANDS TO FOLLOW?!?!
As for that, I think it's more like From First To Last were influenced by the musical direction The used were taking, and therefore pushing them toward. Sonny Moore was Bert's protege on Warped Tour, after all. Even if he's not in the band anymore, he certainly shaped the sound of Heroine. (Much in the way Gerard Way once was, as well. Funny how that happens...)
I've just never got the impression that The Used were followers. They're so insular, I don't see them as being influenced by newer artists. But then WTF do I know, right? ROFL.

1) I said I listened to this song, and The Used! At The Disco came to mind, in addition to Lunacy Fringe Pt. II. As in, this song made me think of Panic! as well as Lunacy Fringe.
2) Even if it was vaguely possible for you to get a "Lunacy Fringe Pt. II" sounds like P!atD.... Uhm... I still said "Pt. II"... so it still wouldn't make any sense that I would be saying that Lunacy Fringe was a Panic! ripoff, or whatever you're trying to get at there.
So how about I let you borrow that time machine, and we go back in time and forget that you ever called me out on that. Sound good?

I love how people hear the first 3 seconds of something and 3 seconds near the end and go LOL PANIC AT THE DISCO.
It sounds -nothing- like Panic! in the rest of the song people.
Cool song, not the best choice for a first single though. Take It Away was an amazing first single that didn't get as big as it should have, of course.

The Used came before Panic At The Disco. You're saying that this song reminds you of Lunacy Fringe enough to call it Lunacy Fringe Pt II. Lunacy Fringe Pt. I came before P!!!!ATD so if anything they stole their sound from The Used (even though I don't really hear any real comparisons). You my friend are a dumb fuck.

Judging from this song and the clip of "Handsome Awkward" on Berth, I'd say they're still moving forwards. It doesn't sound like the self-titled by any means, but it doesn't sound the same as In Love and Death either. I can't really say if I like it or not, but I can say that I'm not completely turned off by it. Some more listens will make my mind up, probably, though I have a feeling it won't be until I hear the whole record that I can make any serious judgements.
I'm kinda praying for what happened with New Found Glory, where Catalyst was pretty terrible, but it was a natural step in the evolution that got them to Coming Home, which I think is fantasitc. Hopefully In Love and Death was just a step to get them to somewhere different, but still as good as their old stuff...though their s/t is so amazing I don't think anything they make after can touch it, but it's not too little to hope for something at least better than average.
The Used came before Panic At The Disco. You're saying that this song reminds you of Lunacy Fringe enough to call it Lunacy Fringe Pt II. Lunacy Fringe Pt. Christ, I never said they ripped off anyone. Please, go back to my original post and tell me where I said that. Enlighten me.
I just said what it reminded me of: In listening to the song, I was reminded of both Panic! and Lunacy Fringe.
Don't shove words into my mouth, and then call me a dumb fuck for "saying them".
Dumb fuck.

It's not "Used! at the Disco". The only reason you apply that is because they're using strings. ...So, incase you weren't aware, PATD wasn't the first (popular) band to use strings or orchestration in their music. Respect for The Used for incorporating more musical aspects. Music is music, it's pretty much impossible to do something "new", so the expectation of such is just a bar often set way too high.

I'm going to have to wait until I hear more of their new songs to make a final judgement, but this song kind of crushed my hopes for The Used putting out a kick-ass record. It reminds me of Heroine/Panic! (like many users have already said)....I still doubt that they can top their self-titled album.

ya i like it. if you've listened to 'handsome awkward' on their myspace or wherever you may find it, that one sounds a little more like "the used" that we know and love. but if theyre putting both songs on the new cd then the other songs will pretty much be different sounding too. dont hate, they have to grow and move on from their sound eventually. it happens. but we still love them. its not quite as screamy as the rest of their stuff but i really like it anyway. bert is so amazing.

Gotta show love for the Used...
The song is much different from what they've released before, but it's not an unwelcome jump or isn't jarring... We've taken the best elements from their past albums and have blended them together to make this epic-sounding song. Nice single. Nice song. Lies for the Liars is going to be great.
I like it. It's different.
Can I ask why people hate In Love and Death?
Personally, yes, I liked the first album more. In my top 5 of all time.
But what was WRONG with ILAD? It was upbeat and very poppy, but why is that bad? It was very different than their first, had some terrific melodies, and some neat lyrics (though I'm biased there, as The Used have my favorite lyrics).
And I think Take It Away should have been a fucking smash hit. It wasn't as big as it could have been and I kind of blame marketing. The song was fucking anthemic and had so much potential.
They did iffy single choices after.

because bert gave up his signature scream that made the debut what it was, and the lyrics weren't as poetic and creative. and the fact that every song has very similar song structure minus 3 or 4

He wasn't a total douche when I met him, though. People have been saying he's been better off lately. Maybe he's nicer to fans. From the videos on their site he seems like he'd be exceptiionally annoying to live with, tho. Ahaha. I'd spend half the tour wanting to smack him and tell him to sit the fuck down, you crazy crackmonkey.
That said, something has Bert REALLY pissed off at shows lately. All my firends that have been going to TOC shows have said that Bert's getting very angry before certain songs and calling the person said songs are about a lot of vicious names. (Hmm...three guesses who that might be about but you'll probably only need one. *headdesk* Oh, Bert.)
