music to a song

I'm not sure this is the right section to ask in, but... I was wondering if you guys write music or lyrics first, just wondering... cuz if I start with music that part is okay but I kinda feel I have to fit in the words, while when I have lyric already there, melodies get kinda always simlar, and I dnt see how I could change this all thing... so... any advice?
