Unless there is a deffinite difference between the original, like a dvd, a bunch of unreleased stuff, improved quality, maybe new album art, i think it's a money scheme.
Edit: I don't like when they just add a few songs and thats about it and charge $18 for it when the original is only $10 or $12.
Thoughts?

or better quality- I only buy rereleases usually if there's some sort of bonus stuff, but then again that's what most of them seem to be

It depends on what the bonus stuff is. If it's just two extra songs and a 5 minute DVD, I don't think it's worth it. If that was the case, I'd only buy it if it was a band I was really into.

ya when its significant like a 120 minute dvd and 4-6 extra songs, then its worth it. ya and if im really into the band.

Tell All Your Friends was one of the biggest wastes of a rerelease

The only re-release I've ever purchased is Second Stage Turbine Blade because my original got scratched all to hell and wouldn't play anymore.

unneccesary unless the original release is a) out of print b) was originally self-released c) or just really obscure
unless they're going to include a SHITLOAD of new stuff on it, i'm not gonna like it. give me a DVD and say 5-7 songs i don't already have, and i'd probably pick it up. a dvd and 1-2 new tracks won't cut it for me.
90% of these things are simply to make more money. pathetic.

^ yes.
and i bought the TAYF re-release because my original copy was so worn from over play and the DVD only had the 4 videos, nothing else. the cover says there should be a bunch of interviews and shit, but there's not. anyone else have this problem with it?

Re-releases are for the most part only ideal for the most ardent collectors.

I think re-release buy bands more time to work on making a new album because they've realized maybe they arent the biggest shit ever *cough* chiodos, silverstein, panic!*cough*

Was the re release remastered?
Not sure. I don't have the packaging with me. It does have 3 bonus tracks though.

I hate it when bands re-release albums that are no more than 5 years old. If I like a band, I get the album right away. One that really pissed me off was Say Anything, why couldn't they have just released "...Was a Real Boy" as a separate E.P.? If it is something that is long out of print, then it is justifiable, but a lot of these record labels, like Victory, just try to make an extra buck off their customers.

Depends how old the release, and how much bonus stuff is on it.
I generally don't like albums being re-released a year after they were released. That's fucking ridiculous, and an obvious grab for cash from stupid impressionable kids. Vagrant do this. Victory do this. The only time Vagrant did this well was with Alkaline Trio's Crimson, and only because the bonus disc was 14 tracks.
Another justified one was the Motion City Soundtrack re-release of Commit This To Memory. It had a full length DVD with it, that i would have spent the same amount of money on anyway. I see it as coming with a bonus copy of the album, rather than the album coming with a bonus DVD. A full show, plus all their videos, plus doco footage, plus making of music video stuff. What you'd get on a normal music DVD. That was worth it.
It's when, in the case of pretty much all the re-releases that Victory have done, and Vagrant's re-release of Senses Fail, where they offered (as if the band isn't bad enough already), like 3 extra tracks. Under a year after it's initial release.
Asian Man Records have been awesome, re-releasing (a few more are due out this year too) The Queers, and Screeching Weasel's Lookout Records stuff. Since that label went down the shitter, and are no longer printing anything. They have amazing bonus tracks on them. Same with Jawbreaker's Dear You. After their label gave them the ass, the album went out of print very quickly, and became very sought after. They re-released it 5 years later, with a bunch of rad b-sides. Gorilla Biscuits' Start Today is another great example of re-releases gone right.
So some labels do it right, and some do it for the money.

I bought the MCS release of Commit This To Memory for the DVD, it was worth it, and i just gave the cd to my girlfriend as a present and kept the DVD. I also bought the re-release of Crimson, it had the second disc of demo and acoustic versions.
I think most of the time re-releases arent worth it.

I like them because it allows me to download the new material they stick on for free, when it might previously be hard to get holf of.
depending on what downloading program, you can pretty much get any song out there.
i was searching the program that i use, soul seek, and i found music that i have written on there...
somebody downloaded it from my purevolume and it haha. but it depends i guess. the stuff might be super super rare.

i only buy re-releases if there is a good amount of new stuff.

I use OINK, Etcetera Forums and occasionally Limewire.
i really recommend soul seek. depending on how the people organize their music, it puts all the tracks in order, you get alota results, and its super qucik. i really really recommend it.
