it's hard to compare... patrick stump is a great singer, don't gbet me wrong, but we are in the auto tune age, it's used by everyone.... people like lennon and hendrix never even heard those words when they were alive...

out of curiosity, how are people basing their votes? on enjoyment? (obviously subjective) or on talent? (still somewhat, but considerably less objective)
either way mercury gets my tick on both accounts
if shitpieces like stump and way are on this unit we should at least be realistic and acknowledge william becket and craig owens...let's be reasonable ppl

you CAN compare them to each other. the poll is called 'who's a better singer?' not 'who's just better?' just because they're older doesn't mean you can't compare them? not that i voted for one of them.
and shut up about fourteens year olds, seriously. it's so annoying. i'm fourteen and i listen to the classics AND my chemical romance and fall out boy. and you know what? i've been listing to fall out boy since evening out with your girl and my chem since bullets. sure, there are some people who only like them because of mtv, but who cares? seriously. first of all, don't you think they're on there because they have talent? and second, how come no one hates the beatles for being so famous?

No you are wrong.. Patrick Stump should never ever be uttered in the same sentence as John Lennon or Paul McCartney.. He may be talented, but what has he proven? Nothing much...
If your going to make a poll about favorite singers, pick a time period.. The majority of bands and singers DO NOT compare to any band from the 60's/70's.. Sorry

Not to be a jerk off, but if your 14, you are brought up on MTV based music.. Its all around you.. I'm glad you have been a fan of Fall Out Boy since Evening Out, but you can not compare Fall Out Boy to the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, or Pink Floyd.. In fact if you think you can you really have no sense of music.. These bands are CLASSICS.. Not saying that FOB will never be, (i think they won't), but theres no comparison..
Again, anyone who can seriously say that Stump or Way can compare to any of the classic bands listed has serious musical issues.. I am huge glassjaw fan and Daryl Palumbo may be my favorite singer, but he isn't better than Lennon or Plant..

freddie mercury out of this group
I picked Gerard I mean come on havent you heard teh Black Parade!?!?!?!?!
Jesus Christ wheres Jesse Lacey, so he could steal some votes from Paul McCartney (who I really voted for) or Freddie (who is a close second imo)
I know some older bands are overrated, not saying the lead singers of any of these bands are and some people pretend to listen or care about classic bands, but to compare Gerard Way and Patrick Stump, to Lennon, McCartney, Mercury...well anyone on this list is ignorance, so Im hoping that he put those choices on there as a joke.
But lets be honest, with how commercialism works, in 20/30 years people may be talking about Fall Ot Boy and My Chemical Romance in this light, but hopefully theyll realize that they were average at best and their success was a joke.

yeah this poll is for favorite...i voted for stump...i'm not even all that big of a fall out boy fan...but i like fall out boy more than classic rock...i never really got into classic rock...freddy mercury would be my second pick though...i never got into pink floyd or zepplin, they just didn't do it for me...and hendrix is a good on guitar, but singing not so much...and if i had a choice between listening to fall out boy and the beatles, 9 out of 10 times i'd say put on fall out boy...oh and before you call me a 12 year old girl, i'm 25 and been listeing to "punk" for about 13 years or so...and i respect everyone's opinion...

03/28/07, 03:18 PM
I went with Freddie Mercury, who in my opinion could really be the most talented vocalist the world has ever known.
That said, I can empathize with a lot of the people who voted for Patrick Stump. No, Fall Out Boy should not be compared with Led Zeppelin, but I think Patrick Stump has a great voice, and Robert Plant has a godawful voice. (So does Gerard Way, but that's beside the point.) These bands -- Pink Floyd, Queen, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin -- are timeless, but that's in my opinion more because they were original than because they were good. I think that their endurance is based partially on time period. They had brand new ideas that no one had had yet, and by the time the kids of Fall Out Boy came around, there was considerably less innovation to be done. You can't fault them for being born in the wrong year. And voices aside, in a "Best Band" poll, I'd take Fall Out Boy over Led Zeppelin and Queen over both. Led Zeppelin may have inspired music, but Fall Out Boy to me is better at playing it. And Queen was inspirational and very good. Let's not start looking at old inspirations as though they're God -- the same Beatles who wrote "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be" wrote songs like "Rocky Raccoon" and "Yellow Submarine." If you argue that all Fall Out Boy does is write songs about girls and stuff, and that could never compare to the Beatles, I'd ask you what "Eight Days a Week" is.

03/30/07, 07:12 AM
I'm sorry, everyone's saying that it's all about the voice and not the music, so therefore you can compare the likes of the Beatles, Queen, and Led Zeppelin to Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance
However, the poll title is FAVORITE SINGER!!!!! Yes, voice factors in, but so does stage prescene, style, audience commandability, etc...
There is no persuasive arguement (in my opinion) that could make me believe that Gerard Way and Patrick Stumph have not only a better voice, but command the stage, are more iconic, and demand attention more than the likes of Robert Plante and Freddie Mercury
Therfore i went Robert Plante with Freddie Mercury a close second.
p.s. whoever said Mika is as close to Freddie Mercury as can be found in contemporary music is dead on, so go listen to him, he's amazing...
Andrew_Murphy
03/30/07, 07:31 AM
Led Zeppelin may have inspired music, but Fall Out Boy to me is better at playing it.
Hmmm I recommend you listen to more of the latter and less of the pop music. If you are saying that FOB is better at playing power chords for all their songs then yes they are better at that but in every other aspect that relates to quality music (composition, skill, song structure, ect) Led Zeplin blows them out of the water.

I'm gonna go unbiased here and say that Patrick Stump technically is a good singer. If anyone in here actually knows what singing is; I'm talking all aspects from vibrato and control to range and pitch control: Patrick Stump is a good singer. I'm not saying the classics aren't. As for Gerard... God save his soul.

Lol the funny thing is that if you where to ask Stump or Way where they think they are vocally in comparison to ANY of the others here they would have rated them selves MUCH lower than the level of the greats. You may think they are good and ok maybe they are. they do have talent, Bur they are no way near the level to be considered better than any of the others on this poll.
