Bosola - RE:EP
Released March 15th, 2006
Intorumoni Music

Who?

Math-rock trio out of Brooklyn that fancies themselves a mix between Don Caballero and Fugazi.

How Is It?

Odd time signatures galore and an unwavering rhythm section are bread and butter of Bosola’s RE:EP. Vocals not so much. Both Ali Turan and Ben Reid feel evoking the spirit of Ian MacKaye in their determined shouts is a good thing, but it’s a little awkward set to rhythms you could find in any given Polvo album. Though the EP presents some interesting concepts, it seems more like a dress rehearsal for the band than an actual release. Ideas are tossed around unsteadily; barely taking shape before ending jumping into another rhythm or the song ends. For example, I was barely able to follow the transitions in “Unau”, utterly losing interest in the various drum solos, bass arpeggios, ghostly filler, and lashing guitars. A hearty meal for anyone who likes a little experimentation with their math-rock, but a head-scratcher for everyone else
