Well, aside from one or two memebers being involved in the KKK.
Anyway, I will resume laughing.
Hah.
Not sure how it's funny on any level. Someone's life ended. If it was "self defense" or whatever remains to be seen -- but someone DIED. I have a hard time finding that "funny."
From Wikipedia: On March 25, 2007, Tony Lovato was arrested by LAPD and held on 1,000,000 bail. He is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, Wayne Hughes.

If this was Punknews.Org, this would be the SUPREME make a sandwich thread.
From Wikipedia:
The "I'm Going To Get A Sandwich" Meme
In September 2002, it was announced that Fenix Tx were breaking up. In the original news story, news editor Adam White expressed a lack of interest and empathy by writing the following simple statement:
Our comrade-in-arms Timmy over at PunkBands.com has confirmed with MCA Records that Fenix Tx has broken up... I'm going to get a sandwich. [11]
The joke became popular among readers posting in the comment section, and was initially used and reused to punctuate the insignificance of a generally disliked yet well-known band's break up. Since then the joke has caught on to the point where anytime any band announces their break up, it is inevitable that someone will reference the joke, whether consensus warrants it or not.
I love that they have tried to take a joke that's been commonly deployed by 3rd rate comedians on Comedy Central for the past 10 or so years -- and take credit for it.
Weird.

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bail) is your friend:
In most cases bail money will be returned at the end of the trial, if all court appearances are made, no matter whether the person is found guilty or not guilty of the crime accused.

Someone needs to put that in the Wikipedia entry for this website because that is true.
But I digress, back to shittyness known as Mest.
Stealing "news"? 1) That's not possible. 2) That's stupid.
And linking to an mp3 is not illegal or an act requiring "credit" - that's why it is a link. If something can be found via google, and linked via google, why can't I link to it? It might not be proper netiquette -- but it's not "stealing."

A million bail? That's insane.
Murder is one of the few charges where the common law presumption is not in favor of granting bail. However, the amount of bail is not a form of punishment. Rather it is determined according to factors such as the severity of the offence, the likelihood of the accused absconding, character associations, home environment and background, strength of evidence against the accused, and any previously granted bail. I'm not too familiar with the American criminal justice system, but if an accused was asked to post $1mil for bail in this country it would be as a result of the accused posing a significant unacceptable risk in relation to any of the abovementioned facts which determine whether or not bail is to be granted and, if granted, the amount at which it is set.
jason, im not familiar with legal jail holding or anything like that but lets say he does put up that million dollers bail and your found innocent. that must be shitty to have to pay all that money when you didnt deserve to ever be there in the first place. do you feel like that someone in that situation would deserve to be in anwyway ?

self-defence and accident are not the same thing. accident means that there was no intention to commit harm occasioning death, whereas self-defence indicates that there was an intention to commit harm, but that this was occasioned out of necessity for ensuring the accused's own safety and bodily integrity remained intact.

No money from any band or label goes through me - so this would be an impossible situation. That's why the website is set up like it is -- by design. So, not only are you wrong (as I've turned down plenty of $ from plenty of sources) but the ads aren't even handled by me.
i cannot stand how you claim this is some hoenst news site, but on the flipside bands that you personally love (i.e. sherwood, the academy is, paramore) get way more coverage than other bands who are doing just as many things newsworthy.
1) Where did I claim it was "hoenst"? It's an editorial blog like message board. The connotation that goes with that description is most correct.
2) I can't stand Paramore.
3) What gets coverage is what we are submitted or I find while browsing the internet - the fans/users are the main force that dictate what is getting coverage on the website. Not me.
and sure, you don't personally post about some of the stuff (could be rohan, tony, anybody who posts), but since you do run the site you could put a stop to the excess news related to the previously mentioned artists as if anybody really gives a shit that the 4,675th installment of acadmey is tv is up for veiwing, just as you put a stop to things going up on the site that you aren't down with.
Users are given control (http://www.absolutepunk.net/profile.php?do=editoptions) over what bands they don't want to see news from.
(i.e. the whole i'm never posting about my american heart ever again because i'm a pussy and don't like it when people give me shit about what gets posted on my website),
Not the situation at all.
even though this is supposively a news website,
No, really it's not. It's a message board and as much a "news" website as Digg or Fark. You're holding us to a standard we don't hold for ourselves, never did, never plan to -- again, that's by design. So far, it's worked beautifully for us.
which would involve things that you don't agree with or enjoy listening to.
I post countless things about bands I don't enjoy listening to (very (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=223165) recent (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=223795) examples (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=223787)).

Jason and the ladies and men who work for him, do a fine and fair job of covering bands equally, if it was up to Jason, I'm sure Morrisey news would be posted 50 times a day instead of crappy bands like Russian Circles. But that isn't the case, wether he or is staff likes the music, they still try and cover it [though the heavy music does need some work around here] everything is pretty much done great when it comes to news, music and reviews, so I don't know where you are pulling any of that garbage from. Oh and I doubt he actually cares to post some nonsense post like yours in his journal when he can actually put music he likes and enjoys there instead. Nice try though man, get 'em next time.

Stabbing someone to death isn't becoming "wiser".
But who knows?
Perhaps he was defending himself? But since the guy is dead, that may be hard to prove.
Maybe he had some racy photographs?
I agree stabbing someone isn't wise. However I so believe he was protecting himself. Especially If he has been cooperating with the cops.
I honestly hope if it was self defense that this will sort itself out.
Here is to hoping.

yea. there is nothing wrong with that. but you would agree that it would take some effort to kill somebody with a pocketknife
plus my point was that he had a large knife
I (fortunately) have no idea what it takes to kill a man with a weapon. I would assume it would be multiple stab wounds (as I think the news implied) - but could also assume in the "heat of the moment" someone not understanding what they're doing.
Regardless -- I don't have it in me to ever do something like that, unless I was about to die if I didn't. So I really have no idea. I would assume it would take strength and great effort to KILL someone with a pocket knife -- and that if it's really over a girl, and her new boyfriend, that you are severely messed up (no pun intended) to get involved in a situation where it could lead to this sort of consequence.
That said ... I've been in fights ... I would never, ever pull a knife. I remember reading in a book once, "don't carry a knife unless you're going to pull it, don't pull a knife unless you're going to use it, don't use a knife unless you're willing to kill someone." I think it was in one of these books (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-2083961-0072050?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Marc+Animal+MacYoung&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go); and that mantra/adage always stayed with me.

either way he had a knife on him. which means there was some sort of intention. unless it was like a 2in pocket knife, which would most likely not kill someone unless it sliced a jugular or wrist
I haven't read the facts, but I guess that's for the jury to decide

You know, it's funny watching all of you make jokes out of a rather serious situation. Reguardless of your opinions on Mest or A Permanent Holiday, Tony is still a fucking person, a human being, he actually has feelings. Most of you if any of you have probably never in your lives known someone in a situation like this on either side. I have and I know how much it sucks for the family of that guy that died right now and the family and friends of Tony Lovato. I've met Tony many times, and he's always been nothing but sweet to me, and yeah maybe he did stab this guy, he also stood up and told the police what it is that he did and his side of the story. You all want to make jokes? Really. That's cool. Put yourself in the fucking places of those poeple and you would think fucking different. If it was some guy from some shitty scene band who did something like this all of you would be sitting at home crying your little eye liner clad eyes out about it, but it's not. He's somoene that everyone has heard stories about how he's an asshole and everything else, but you know what? They're just stories. He made a mistake just as a lot of people do in life and some fuck up more then others, but that does not give any of you the fucking right to sit there and crack jokes about it because it's a serious situation. You all need to seriously grow the fuck up and get some fucking manners because if it was one of you who killed someone whether it was self-defense or not would you stand there and take the blame and fess up to what you did wrong or would you run away like a fucking coward? I bet most of you would put your tail between your legs and fucking run. Smarten the fuck up. I know a lot of you aren't that idiotic and immature, so show it and show some fucking respect.

I have sympathy for the victim and his family. I'm not saying what Tony did was right, because it wasn't, I know someone who was murdered pretty brutally in the same situation, what I'm saying is people fuck up. For all we know the other guy pulled a weapon first. It does occasionally happen that the person under arrest is actually telling the truth.

I like that you found one thing about me, my podcast, and have decided that's totally enough to make fun of me, it's quaint. Like the kid that wears a blue shirt to school so you make fun of him by calling him, "blue shirt". Totally awesome.
Truth is, despite the fact that I think this site is more humorous than useful for music information, Tate does have a lot of people that come here, so I guess that's cool. I don't hold that against him. This is what he wants to do for a living, I don't. I do my "nerdy little internet radio blah blah" for fun. I never ever want to make money off of anything music related because once you do (and especially once it's your livelihood) it becomes something else. Maybe it's still fun but it's definitely different when your rent depends on it. So no, I'm not jealous. I don't care if 10 people or 10,000 listen to the show. It's afforded me the opportunity to talk to some amazing people and do some things I never would be able to do otherwise.
Now I could go on and talk about how I totally get laid and all the totally cool famous people I've met, and try and make the podcast sound cool to you or make myself sound cool to you. But I think I could win you over if I just gave you some tasty, non-toxic paste.

Maybe it's still fun but it's definitely different when your rent depends on it. So no, I'm not jealous. I don't care if 10 people or 10,000 listen to the show. It's afforded me the opportunity to talk to some amazing people and do some things I never would be able to do otherwise.
You don't think Jason started this for fun, and something he enjoyed doing...so what if he is making money off it, I would too if I was him, I don't think Jason cares if 10 people or 10,000 visit his website either...same stuff could be said about him and what he likes to do with his website as you do your podcasts. Everything you are saying you are just the pot calling the kettle black...very hypocritical of you man.
Now I could go on and talk about how I totally get laid and all the totally cool famous people I've met, and try and make the podcast sound cool to you or make myself sound cool to you. But I think I could win you over if I just gave you some tasty, non-toxic paste.

I like how you found one thing about Jason Tate...his website, and how you like to make fun of him/it for something he likes to do and enjoys. Totally awesome.

I'm not making fun of Jason. I simply think this site is ridiculous. I never said Jason had a tiny penis and didn't get laid. Maybe you were thinking about what you said to me.
Jason cares how many people visit this site, if you think otherwise you're wrong. He might be doing AP.net still in some capacity even if it wasn't making money. However, if it is in fact his source of income, he most certainly does care how many people come to this site. That'd be like Steve Jobs at Apple saying he doesn't care if they sell another song, computer or iPod. It's against your own self interest. Now, I have no investment in my podcast but my free time. It's lost me money hand over fist in equipment, shipping prizes, gas to get to interviews and everything else involved. If I didn't have that podcast I'd be a richer man. If Jason didn't have AP.net (again if it is his source of income) he'd have a different job. It doesn't mean he can't enjoy it or that he's a bad person but it puts your values in a different place, though I'm sure others would disagree.

The fact that he was blessed to make money by doing something he likes means he doesn't need or have to get another/different kind of job. So yes, right now it makes perfect sense for him to care about his site, because it's a way to make a living for him. Big deal, he shares it with people who like music and can meet other people that might have stuff in common with them, or can share opinions...people that come to this site are the best interactions between people anywhere on the internet, I'd say even better than myspace or a facebook, or up there at least, regardless if the people agree or not, in this case, me and you.

Salinejoy, I'm glad you asked that. I'll field this the best I can. Yes and no. Fighting on the internet isn't fun in a lot of ways. You'll almost never sway a persons opinion, chances are they'll be nothing more than silly name calling (saying someone has a small penis, or never gets laid, or even posting a picture of someone with Mike Park that's over a year and a half old as if that's some kind of an insult), and in the end you typically get gang banged by a bunch of people who don't share your opinion (or can't back up theirs and resort to simple, personal attacks or threats). So, it can really suck.
However, it can also be a laugh riot if:
1) you really don't care how it turns out. You simply have your beliefs and you know (like this instance) no matter what you say you won't be able to sway anyone. You go in knowing the outcome and that just makes the path that much more enjoyable. Why? Because you get to watch as people become heated and hurl baseless insults and then go on thinking you were schooled.
2) You can actually get someone really pissed off. Having someone threaten you with physical violence over the internet is always a good time. Why? Mostly because it's physically impossible. If a kid from Denver says he'll beat my ass, how is he going to get to me? Does he have the time or energy to track me down and if he does can't it be better spent? AND because the thought of someone getting so pissed off over the internet that they would actually resort to physical violence is insane.
Mostly, I'm at work till 2am and I'm just killing time. All I'm doing is supervising an event, so unless someone needs something I'm just sitting at my desk. I think this site is funny because it really does try to pass itself off as a legit music site (which I guess some of you buy) but it's a site that's supremely run and focused by a single person and those who tend to disagree with him are either removed or gang banged. Fact is that makes a great one man site, but it makes an awful music site. It's really this simple, I noted a ton of people applauded when Jason admitted he had a bias in the Fall Out Boy review. People should have asked (with a full stable of competent reviewers, one of whom already rated the album similar to Jason) why he reviewed it at all.

Well, it's been real AP.neters. The event should be cleaned up in a few minutes and I'll be out of your hair (well the five of you who noticed me) for at least a while. When you show up at court, from what I understand, you get the money back.
Once the case is complete, yes. Your money is tied up until the case is either dismissed or a verdict is reached. In the case that you pay a bailbondsman (typically 10% of your bond, so in this case 100K) they put up the full ammount (1M) and when your case is over, they get their 1M back from the court, and they get to keep your 100K as well. Very profitable business, if you can keep track of your criminals.

I know a lot of you aren't that idiotic and immature, so show it and show some fucking respect.
dude youre getting upset for no reason. no one is making jokes about the victim. and no one is saying that they hope tony goes to prison.

I was in a bar in Blue Island a couple weekends ago and a lady there was talking about how she used to be his neighbor
How many times are you gonna post that?

When you show up at court, from what I understand, you get the money back.
Oh ok, I never knew that. Thanks.

This has nothing to do with what I said.

Btw, after looking at his profile picture above, he really does need to be punched in the face.
Regardless of his actions, way to judge someone based on appearance alone.

Seriously, their songs just fit so perfectly! Maybe the band was a front the entire time and solely set up so we could make jokes later on.

I won't bother to reply to any more of your responses about this because you're full of shit and you know it. And much like Orenthal J. Simpson, you'll never admit it.
Thus, why so many people here and from other websites consider you such an enormous tool.
Again, move on and let's focus on the shittyness known as Mest.
It says a lot about someone who finds it in them to visit an "enormous tool's" website, don't you think?

this is no laughing matter by any means...how could you possibly joke about how "shitty" you thought Tony's bands were, when he is in jail for possibly killing someone(self defense or not)?
you people are absolutely sick, and you deserve to rot in hell.

how many times would u need to stab someone with a small pocket knife to kill them?
once. if you hit the right spot.....stab or slice someone right under their arm...near the aimpit, you'll kill them in a matter of seconds.

for those of you out of the punk rock (and i use that term loosely here) gossip loop, tony from MEST stabbed and killed a dude. before you start saying, "dont judge til you hear the entire story," fact is, he did that shit because he called the police and admitted it. sucks that someone died and all but hey, couldnt have happened to a bigger douchebag. ive seen this dude call girls sluts and whores and kick them off the bus for not "blowing" him. ive never liked his ass, not because he was arrogant (lord knows that would be the pot calling the kettle black) but because he was mean, bitter, spiteful and conceited. we'll see if his street cred from being in a white power band when he was young will get him in with the aryan nation in prison.
This is a publicity stunt... in a few days they'll be like "ohh he was not guilty... ps: we're back and going on Warped Tour!"
lolllllllllllll! never did like his band.

i obviously don't know what happened, but i'm guessing since we're in the good old usa if he would have brutally murdered him in broad daylight screaming at the top of his lungs he could get off with some bullshit litigation. however, if it was an accident he will probably get life in prison.
