What's the one album you like by a band you otherwise don't care for?

Tell All Your Friends is probably one for me, though WYWTB isn't THAT bad sometimes.

SickOfStars
03/27/07, 10:39 AM
I'd second that with Tell All Your Friends

The Used would be a second band for me, actually

i adored their self-titled effort, and abhorred In Love & Death. and from what i've heard so far, i don't think i'm going to care for their new disc much either

It's almost ironic that my favourite album of all-time came from a band that I really don't care for anymore.

I agree with The Used on this one. I was into their first album when it first came out, then they came out with their second and... yeah

...I've rediscovered this album lately, and It's really growing on me. I didn't care much for "Say It Like You Mean It", but maybe now I'll go back and check it again.

I'm not exactly ashamed......and I'm not even quite surte it's the only album I liked as I havent really looked too far into it, but, Straylight Run does some pretty good stuff.

The same goes for weezer, Blue is i nmy opinion one of the greatest albums of all time, what really got me into music. Pinkerton was a lower attempt, but still enjoyable.

Take This To Your Grave. I heard it when it came out, and thought it was a great, simple, tight light-pop-punk album. Then they made a fucking awful, marketed, fake album for their next release. And it didn't help that i found out how fake, and how much of an egotistical "rock star" cock Pent Wentz is.

It's mainly from what Chris (as in the Chris from "Hey Chris, you were our only friend" line) said in his open letter to Pete. He spilled the beans on his former friend's ego, and how he's turned them from thinking like a normal band, to thinking in terms of marketing. That's fine if you want fame and fortune. I'm not going to stop any if that's what their dreams are, but i'm just so opposed to that way of thinking for bands. It goes against everything that i think music stands for. It is also a little to do with what he says in interviews, and it also has a little to do with his little naked penis.

I know you didn't mean to start something, or try and defend the band, so it's cool :-) To anyone else that does try and attack me, unlike Kate just being curious, me having that as my opinion regardless of how educated i think it is, doesn't hurt anyone. So don't even try.

I would probably say this as well. I thought the self titled was a good album, but I can't listen to anything that followed.

I also enjoyed MCR's first album, I'm not a huge fan of the two that followed.

Stay What You Are is really their only album that had any lasting power with me. idk, maybe some of their other stuff will grow on me one day. i still think you should go with Stay What You Are for your tattoo by the way haha.

summerstars19
03/30/07, 05:11 AM
Their other albums range from pretty below average to good but contrary to popular belief are nothing close to Stay What You Are which itself is only an 8/10 for me.
Pretty below average?? I mean, an opinion is an opinion so you of course are free to think whatever you'd like. My opinion, however, is that your taste in music needs improvement.

summerstars19
03/30/07, 06:55 AM
Well my opinion is that is has improved so i can see Saves the Day within context. Althuogh they are a pretty influencial band within the scene they are merely the best of a bad group of bands. Still Stay What You Are is great, Through Being Cool too but anything besides those aren't worth bothering with for me.
The thing is, I can respect your opinion because you back it up. I hate it when people just say "bla, bla I hate this band because they suck." I love Saves The Day, not nearly as much as other people here do, but I take them for what they are. I don't think they're the best band ever and I can see where you're coming from with your statement. I've never really looked at their music as some incredible, influential piece that changed my life (I know i'll probably get shit from some people for this) but they just didn't do that for me. I like all of their albums as something enjoyable to listen to. I do think Stay What You Are and Through Being Cool are superior to a lot of other albums put out by a lot of other bands, but like I said, I wouldn't consider them to be a major driving force on the list of influential bands.
