no. it's from 2000. go rent it. i think it might be a re-make though because the cover i got with it says something about a retired boxer or something. and that it was made in 65. neither of those held true to the movie though. just make sure you get the newest version, if there's an old one.

He's right it is one of the best movies Ive ever seen. There is no remake...it is based on a novel by an author named Hubert Selby Jr.
I rented it from Blockbuster and they screwed up and had the plot of some boxer movie with Jackie Gleason on the back cover...probably just a clerical error. Everyone should see this movie it's a real eye opener. If you get it from Blockbuster you'll most likely see the edited version...the original version is rated NC-17 and Blockbuster doesn't carry movies like those, it is too extreme. Dont worry though the edited version is still amazing.

This movie is really good, but overrated and used a social tool, much the same as Donnie Darko

The movie is awesome. If you really like that you should check out Spun or Manic.

I loved that movie. I just happened to see it. My sisters friend had brought it to our house and left it there. I watched it and was horrified, and yet mesmerized by it. It's a wonderful movie, if screwed up. My favorite is Marian. She's such a horrible person, but I felt so much compassion for her. I can't stand the mother. Although she did phenomenally well in the role, I hated her. Anyways, if you don't like human suffering or can't handle that kind of thing, don't see it. If you can, watch, take it in, and love it.

If you like Requeim, try seeing the Director (Daren Aronofsky) first movie he ever directed it's called Pi (like the number sequence 3.14....) That was really good too.;)

^the extent of the tragedy is undetermined. Your collision course with my heart, I fear has caused a damage unknown to me. I'm sure I'll burn this love down, and walk away. Let that raging fire warm my back. The tragedy I fear is completely my own.^[/

Why was Marion a horrible person? Because of the lengths she went through to get another fix? That's called addiction.

that would be good too. my favorite scenes in the movie are the one depicted in suckerpunch_'s avatar and at the end when they all curl up into themselves. i can relate and it just hits me hard for some reason.
