There For Tomorrow – Pages EP

Who?
There For Tomorrow is a powerpop group hailing from Orlando, Florida. The city on the outskirts of Disney World is a fitting home for this fledgling band. Youngsters will most likely enjoy their simple brand of soaring guitars and melodies. But just like a good amusement park, There For Tomorrow brings enough (unintentional) nostalgia and energy to keep an aging scenester (me?) intrigued.
How is it?
Solely by seeing the sinister word “powerpop”, you can already guess the strengths and weaknesses of Pages. The choruses are important and repeated many times throughout each song. The songs are speedy and all blend together. But in all honesty, who cares? This is easily enjoyable music that aides in the never-ending search for “roll your window down” tunes (cringe). Opener “Wrong Way To Hide” showcases Mika Maile’s yelping, not-too-tough vocals and his intermittent electronics add some much needed originality. And while “Waiting” will have your toes tapping, your brain will sit sadly idle. The soft piano in "Waiting" and more electronics in other tracks should be used more effectively on following releases. There For Tomorrow shows promise and (most importantly) a potential to attract the mainstream. I might have been down this musical path many times before, but as a person that’s horrible with directions, I see no harm in retracing my steps. It leaves time to smell the flowers.
