Alkaline Trio, the Lawrence Arms (these two bands have the best dual-vocals, IMO, since one singer, and his tunes, contrast/compliment the other singer, and his songs, nicely. Such as the emotions conveyed in them, etc)

soft rock, piano pop. not really good with genres mate. their last album 'everyone is here' from '04is fantastic. these boys are the brilliant minds behind both split enz (late 70's & early 80's) & crowded house (late 80's & early 90's) as well. so when they came together for this album after both working solo for a while, something really special happened. if ya have trouble finding it. i'll up it later on (slow internet haha). their also artists that have to be seen live to really appreciate just how terrific they really are

In all of Complete Discography he only actually screams once(to my memory), in the wire cover of 12xU. Its when his voice gets really high pitched, the rest of it is yelling. In fact, he doesn't really scream all that often, he just has a very powerful yell, you can hear him scream a lot more in live fugazi tapes and embrace than anywhere else. Of course, this is if you meant the emo hardcore scream and not just making a lot of noise, which he is good at. I take it you aren't a fan of The Evens either? We should add them to this list, The Evens. And Palatka, they may have more than two vocalists, its hard to tell.

Peter Skulls
03/31/07, 12:04 PM

The Evens is where Ian finally sings. Like, true singing, not even Fugazi style, he plays baritone acoustic guitar and plays with Amy Farina on drums who also does lead vocals or backup vocals depending on the song.
Palatka is an emoviolence band who has nothing to do with Ian, they just have a lot of singers and are very, very good. Best 20 second song ever, Where Teachers Go to Learn.

i say taking back sunday's first album. but when they got fred, slowly as they were dumbing down the lyrics (probably by major label request) the focus has been more on adam as the supposed "frontman" (probably also by major label request), so now fred just kinda repeats what adam says every now and then in the song instead of having kick ass "cute without the E"/"there's no I in team" sheer greatness.

I actually think Fred compliments Lazzaras voice better than Nolan did. So TBS is probably my favorite dual vocalist band. Punchline is also very good.

punchline only did it on one cd- 37 everywhere, and that guy is no longer in the band. but it did sound nice on a few songs imo.

i like billy talent, just two completely different voices, probably a lot of people in here dont.

and lennon/mccartney were the best.

I love TREOS' use of 3 singers on BTHATS. They only have two singers now though.

You are.

But to the topic at hand: Blood Brothers, CTTS, IWSMOFFY, Fall of Troy, Blink 182, Larry Arms, Alk3.

He is the only guy in that band with any talent at all and even that doesnt stretch to song writing ability.

you just gotta like the kind of music man. honestly im no fan of most screamo but thats screamo when it's done RIGHT.

you know you're actually the first person on this board mature enough to let the genre debate go instead of like getting all pissed and steamed over it. thank you.

well most of why i dont "know my genres" is because i really dont care all that much. when someone explained to me what most genres were about instead of giving me bands i took my own interpretation without knowing it would be wrong to so many people who are really passionate about it, and i mean its not really that important to me so whenever someone wants to like lynch me because i called old taking back sunday emo im usually just like, "okay. YOU WIN. are you happy?" cause i dont erally care in the first place.

Picture doesnt work.

I see myself as a big brother figure (1984 style not the lame reality tv show), if i tell people long enough and loud enough what emo is they will eventually learn to love screamo and circle takes the square as one and the same,
then one of them will find a book that you actually wrote and think that they can start a revolution, they'll meet a girl and have sex a few times, then they'll go to their safe house and you'll bust them then torture them until they don't look human.

(i haven't read 1984 in like 2 years so i may be dusty)

duh taking back sunday but.. of course everyone loves the old tbs as do i but the new tbs aint bad at all.. theyre great still just not as great as when they had John Nolan and Shaun Cooper.. actually Matt Rubana was a great replacement for Shaun so im ok with that. Fred is such a cool person tho.. so i cant bash him at all. hAHA

matt is my favorite bassist, definitely. and, well, fred has influenced their music style a lot, and his voice kinda sucks and it cracks all the time, but i definitely respect his innovation--when he writes stuff it's all his own and not simply a product of his influences.

anatomy of a ghost anyone?

I guess it's personal preference, but I don't care for Dewey's voice. I think he only sang back up on a few songs, but they would have been better if John had just layered everything on cd.

I'm going to drop Beloved, not because I think Joe's scream is top notch, but I think Joe and Josh's voices complimented the music well when it changed from lighter to heavier breakdown stuff. Old Midtown with Tyler and Heath singing behind Gabe was good too.

worth noting:
The Get Up Kids
Sherwood
Student Rick
Atreyu (ya ya I know...but the drummer does have a decent voice)
Juliana Theory (back ups, kind of forgettable but not awful)
Poison The Well with 2 vocalists
Tegan and Sara
River City High
Eisley
The Beautiful Mistake
As I Lay Dying (I like the blend of screaming and singing)
Hot Water Music
Homegrown
Allister
