Full lengths cost MONEY. Not every band has Mommies and Daddies that can throw cash at them to record. If you're so riled up about this, why not send them a couple grand yourself. What, too lazy???

...and yeah, full-lengths do cost money, which is why most bands sign to a LABEL which will ADVANCE them the dough and hook them up with distribution. sounds like a good deal, right?

They loved and supported me plenty, but I appreciate your heartfelt concern. And you can thank them for my cleverness.
Yes, the deal you described is great if you can get it. Unfortunately, that's not always how it works. Driving East actually paid for the new EP songs out of their own pockets -- a calculated risk that paid off by catching the attention of TMG. I guess it's easy to sit at our computers and second guess (read: criticize) everything that these bands do. But in reality there are probably a lot more factors at play than we realize. Moral of the story: Don't be a jackass unless you know what you're talking about.
