Again, the series of related pieces is on hold. I'm working out the kinks. Until then, here's this...
Mumble
Maybe it’s the fact that I can’t sing what I’ve been thinking,
That’s been keeping me from lying beside someone on the ground.
Completion would be kind of nice, feeling like I’m marching across ice,
I’m a mumble in a sea of shouting sound.
Oh, well I guess I could always stick to moving my feet,
From the foot of my bed to the side of the street.**
[Chorus]
I fell just short of aspiration.
Well, I suppose it’s how it ends.
As just another painful tale,
Of a thousand forgotten friends.
Let’s take a late night walk down to the creek,
We can discuss the aspects of trying far too hard at this.
Closure would be a wonderful gift, cause this tired tongue is too heavy to lift,
So let’s skip the introductions and share at least one kiss.
And I guess I could always stick to watching the sky,
I’m busy asking you “how?”, you’re busy asking me “why?”.
I fell just short of aspiration.
Well, I suppose it’s how it ends.
As just a thousand painful tales,
Of a thousand forgotten friends.
There’s a tree in my yard that stretches towards the sky,
It’s a fuckin' impossible goal with a capital I.
With the wind rushing through, and the leaves hugging the grass,
Your voice in the air knocked me flat on my ass.
We fell just short of our destination,
In relation to what I’ve said about aspiration.
Well, I suppose this is how it always ends.
In relation to all that I’ve said about lost friends.
I fell just short of aspiration.
Well, I suppose it’s how it ends.
As just another painful tale,
Of a thousand forgotten friends.
And now I’m somewhere between defiant and dumb,
Where the words that I’ve swallowed roll right off of my tongue.
Oh, now I’m somewhere between defiant and dumb,
With my head at the foot of the table, praying for crumbs.

** - Read this stanza again...yes, I'm sure you caught it. I never thought I'd be refrencing both "Happy Feet" and "March of the Penguins" in my work. Hell, I even used the penguin's name, Mumble. Anyway, thanks for reading.
