Guitar + Me - Band = Bad

So its been 4 years now I can't seem to get myself on the ball to starting a band. In high school I had one of the best local pop punk bands. I move to college and decided I wanted to start something new. I've tried numerous musicians but everyone seems to be on the "lets play Open E and have breakdowns every 30 seconds into the song with lots of screaming". I'm tired of everyone thinking that metal breakdowns and screaming is the only thing to do. I don't mind metal, screamo or hardcore but please do we have to copy every band we listen to?

I'm 22 and I'm feeling like I missed the bandwagon on starting a band. I'm bummed out so bad that I don't really pick up the guitar anymore because I just don't feel creative as much as I use to be. Sorry I had to rant it out here in the music community because all my friends don't listen to the same music I do or do they play instruments.

i know how you feel, my friend and i need a drummer really bad, we've tried craiglist, but everyone either just suck as, or doesn't like what our music wants to strive for, but don't give up, i'm pretty sure there would be someone just like you in your area

thats what i'm gonna do...just sit in my room and record everything myself...with the help of some friends.

that sounds like a brilliant idea. maybe when you have something recorded already people might be more open to your ideas and want to play with you.

drop d is awesome. I like breakdowns - but it has been overdone.

Yeah I have the same kind of problem. Like I've written a buttload of lyrics and have plenty of song ideas, but my friends are freaking not motivated at all. Like my friends are all into metalcore, and I wanted to even start a metalcore band to mess around at least get some experience but nobody's down. All I have is cheap equipment so I'd have to get some real guitars and stuff to go solo, but I want to play shows and stuff as well. It sucks.
