BLADES OF GLORY - 7.0

+ Heder and Ferrell actually make a good team
+ Funny spoofs on the world of Figure Skating
+ "Coach" and Mr. Feeny are in this (need I say more?)

- No big laughs
- As formulaic as a film get get
- Forgettable

There's really no reason for this paragraph to be here. You probably read the "Pros & Cons" and went "meh" maybe I'll see it on DVD. Well if you didn't rush out of here, let me say that BOG isn't quite as bad as the initial set-up makes it seem. Heder (who I mostly despise) and Ferrell as Professional Figure Skaters? Yikes......At least that's what I though when I heard about it. Surprisingly they make for a funny combination. My favorite scenes consisted of the pair fighting and bickering like children over their different styles of skating. Craig T. Nelson shws up as the two-some's coach, yes you did read that right. It's pretty amusing to watch him "coach" them into a winning team through all their idiotic behavioral problems.
A few other cameos round out a rather underwhelming helping of Will Ferrell-like antics. Many of the movies funniest scenes are blown because of the fact that we've all seen them a thousand times in every commercial and trailer. Anchorman and the more recent Telledega Nights are much funnier than this as far as Ferrell movies go. Heder is only amusing when his character is some kind of turmoil, (In one scene he's forced to eat toilet paper) he's mostly annoying in any other situaltion (nice lip gloss & glitter). Unless you're a big figure skating fan, go ahead and wait for this to come out on DVD.

I dug the ep too, and the new sound was great.... Its the best album they've made since their first. But it just felt too similar to me by track 7.

I was 3 glasses of scotch down when I saw this, so it was pretty amusing. People in my theater didnt catch a lot of the little things, which was odd. I laughed every time they called craig t nelson "coach". I was probably the only one.

I'm sorry, but when they showed what happened when North Korea attempted the "Iron Lotus" I was laughing hysterically, so there was at least ONE big laugh. But yeah, Anchorman is much, much funnier -- I need to see Talladega Nights again because I don't remember a lot of it.

I thought there was a good amount of big laughs, especially during the Forte-Ferrell chase scene and Heder and Ferrell's first skate routine. I loved it, one of Ferrell's best. 8/10

And I really enjoy the new FATA as well. Review this week. :-)

yeah they blew that big time by showing it early.

I dunno why but i lost it when Will Arnette pulled that Asian girl infront of him in the ski shop and Will Ferrell said "Don't make me kill her"

I also lost it bad when he shot that mascot in the head w/ the crossbow

In the Toledo Blade (The local yokel paper) gave this movie 4 stars out of a possible 5. I was wondering if the reviewer was paid extra to give it a great review.

this movie was amazing, just a step below Anchorman.

"night is a dark time for me"

but best line ever:
"get out of my face"
"i'll get inside your face!"

definitely better than expected. And like others have said, not too many laugh out loud moments, but I thought overall, it was a moderately funny film that is best for escapism purposes. I've seen some lame comedies these past years, and at least Blades of Glory embraced the wacky, over the top angle and didn't try to be anything more.

This movie was not as hilarious as I expected it would be. It was still funny though. I laughed pretty hard at their skating routines and the things Will Ferrell Said. It's definately one of those movies you have to be in a good mood to see.
