THE SCORE

http://www.myspace.com/rockthescore
http://www.absolutepunk.net/thescore

Fresh, clever, stereo-blasting pop-rock from outer space. The Score is reminiscent of quirky 90's pop-rock groups such as Weezer and Presidents of the United States of America, with just enough modern flavor to appease fans of bands like Bayside and Motion City Soundtrack. Have fun trying to get these songs out of your head.

The Score started in 2007 as the full-ensemble project of singer/songwriter Arison Cain. Since then, The Score has worked to reclaim and redefine familiar pop and alternative sounds without the threat of swoopy bangs, insincerity, or lack of street cred.

ON DECEMBER 20th, 2008, The Score released "Songs For A Halfway Home", their debut full length album for free download. The record was produced by Matthew Corey and Ace Enders. (The Early November) The album was mastered by Ed Brooks. (Pearl Jam, Harvey Danger, Death Cab for Cutie)

"Mixing the slightly off-kilter vocal delivery of bands like Say Anything and Weatherbox with an undeniable talent for hooky choruses, The Score are surely a band to know. With a new EP out, titled Steady Fingers!! Steady Fight!!, The Score shouldn't lie in obscurity much longer. OK, enough with the lame, press release-style sentences. These guys play fun, quirky pop-rock that occasionally takes new paths on its way to catchiness." - Blake Solomon, Absolutepunk.net

"Immensely friendly and down to earth, these guys are definitely a breath of fresh air from today's internet bands." - E-Minor Music Blog

"With their thoughtful lyrics and catchy hooks, their pop-rock sound has just enough of both pop and rock to make you want to listen - even if you're well past puberty." - Cassandra Baber, Utica Observer-Dispatch

Sounds Like: Foo Fighters, Green Day, Weezer, Motion City Soundtrack

Your songs are catchy. What catches me more than your melodies, lyrics, or any of that is your unique voice. I am a huge fan of your pipes. There is a point in "Rock Bottom" where you apply a slight vibrato to your voice. I am a huge sucker to vibrato, when used well. In terms of improving what you already have going, I'd say, fool around with time signatures and rhythms a bit. A time signature change can make or break a song; use them wisely. A song in 4/4 time can gain new life from a bridge in 3/4 or 6/8. Try using syncopation in your drums. Also, a fun concept to tool with is, instead of using the standard rock blues chord progression, try a jazz progression, like a I-IV-I-I ii-V-I-I. Try using dominant 7th chords in the ii and V chords.

Curious to know what we've been up to? We're pleased to announce the first of many video updates starting right now! Update 1 follows our trip to Shamokin, PA last week. Marvel at our trek through an asteroid war, the fireworks warehouse of Gibson, P.A. and Brettly's awkwardly informative PSA on the dangers of a brick of monterey jack. Hilarity probably ensues. It's all followed by a live performance of "Be Forward With Me" at Tuesday Tunes in Shamokin, P.A. Check it out!:

Alright guys. I'm gonna be honest with you.

I've been up and down a lot in the past few years. I've been smack dab in the middle of more shotgun relationships and radical binges than my body probably could have imagined. It's been a long series of months for yours truly. I've been spending the better part of said months valiantly attempting to document it all.

This brings us to "Songs for a Halfway Home"

"Songs for a Halfway Home" follows a series of my most promising mistakes, both candidly and retardedly. This album is about coming to terms with those mistakes and almost certainly never learning a single lesson from them. At the end of the day, you still never quite feel like you're where you need to be. I love that about life.

We will be releasing "Songs for a Halfway Home", in it's entirety, for free download very soon. The album, as it stands, contains 11 songs. They are gutwrenchers. They are thrillseekers. They are everything that great rock music should be. I promise.

So, here's the deal everybody. "Songs for a Halfway Home" goes out to be mastered on Nov. 28th by Ed Brooks. (Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Harvey Danger, Death Cab For Cutie, Nirvana, The Decemberists, HORSE the band, Gatsby's American Dream, Hot Hot Heat, Botch and countless others) On the week of December 5th, it should be going out to press.

On Saturday, December 20th, we will be releasing Songs for a Halfway Home, our brand new full-length album.

Now, here's where shit gets really interesting:
The album is going to be free to download.

Yeah, I said free.

Stay tuned to our myspace. The details about this are coming really soon. Thank you guys for sticking around and listening to us. There is no better feeling to me than knowing that this music really means something to so many people. Thank you so much for your support and kind words! (Thank you for the birthday wishes as well. http://x.myspace.com/images/blog/smileys/anxious.gif) We won't let you down and this album will not disappoint you. This album is our gift to you. All that we ask is that you spread the wealth, spread the word, SPREAD THE LOVE and let everyone know about it.

Much love,
Arison Cain
