i also just watched this movie for the first time. i had no idea about the plot before i watched it, and after the movie ended i just kind of cringed for a half hour. it wasn't bad, but definately shocked me. i liked that i haven't seen anything like it before. the dialogue was offensive and shocking, but i won't easily forget it. and i like that.

To sum up:

Clive Owen's character gets fucked over by Law's character and Robert's character, but his revenge of fucking Portman's character evens the score and makes him a bad ass.

Julia Robert's character fucks up Owen's character and Portman's character, but never truly has to pay for her actions.

Jude Law's character is the real asshole of the film, fucking up every other character and then hypocritically attacking Portman's character for fucking Owen's character. He is alone and pwnd (by Owen's character) in the end.

Natalie Portman's character is the innocent of the film. She is fucked over by her boyfriend, Law's character, not once but twice. She's also fucked over by Robert's character. She ends up alone and more callous than she was at the start.

Whew, that's a lot of fucking.
